Halloween Costume Thread!

I finally picked my costume for the year:

Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island 2. I just need to pick up a wig and I am all set.

^ How about Bert and Ernie? If that doesn't float your boat (sorry for the pun) how about Batman and Robin (or The Joker) or Harry Potter and Dumbledore or a couple of nuns or Caesar and Brutus.

If you don't insist on going dresses as a pair, how about doing classic horror characters like Frankenstein and Dracula or the Mummy and Wolfman. And speaking of classic, how about characters from literature. One could do King Arthur and the other could go as Jay Gatsby or something like that.

I've been trying to get him to do Bert and Ernie for YEARS!!!!

I love the idea of the classic horror movie characters, but I think the accoutrements might be a bit much to pack with all the cruise paraphernalia. But, I VERY much appreciate the great suggestions.

Jay Gatsby, on the other hand .... That might be do-able!

I was also thinking of just wearing the tux I'll wear for formal night, augmented with a little "dead makeup" and an inflatable life ring with "Titanic" printed on it. But, I was told that probably wouldn't be appreciated on a cruise. Some people are still a bit sensitive, I guess. ;)

Hmmm ..., although your post has got my mind thinking ..., I could do the same basic thing, add a cape and some fangs from a party store, maybe a "sash" of some kind, and be Dracula. That might just work!!! LOL! Except that, because I'm bald, I'd need a wig.

Zombie costumes are always fun and easy. Just some ripped up work clothes and a little bit of makeup.

For work this year, I'm either going to be a zombie or the Joker, and that night I'm going to go full demon so I can win some contests.

This is my favorite of any Halloween costume I've worn:

I was Zorro last year, and Darth Vader the year before.

I'm hoping to either find or create a sheep costume this year.

It's been 30 years since I was in costume.

I remember it well...I was 9 years old, my sister made me a very nice (and quite authentic) Superman costume. Ordinarily I would have had a lot of fun trick or treating. But it was so utterly cold and windy and freezing-rainy that it totally ruined my whole night. :( I only went out at all because I didn't want to make my sister think she'd gone through all that trouble for nothing.

Ever since then I have been totally uninterested in anything linked to Halloween. It's not personal - I didn't mean to become Hallo-Scrooge or whatever. But for me, Halloween = Almost Freezing My Ass Off, and you never forget that...

Lately, the closest I ever get to a costume of any kind - trying to pretend I'm something I'm not - is the Twins T-shirt my dad got for me this year. And that was only because I wanted a souvenir from the Metrodome.

Smurf, assuming that's your real hair in the Jekyll/Hyde pic, here's an easy idea for a costume: Just get a Tigers jersey. Then you could go as Mark Fidrych.

^ That is not my real hair. :rommie: It is a shoulder length brown wig pulled back into a pony tail with my own hair worked into the front to make it look natural. In actuality I am a red blond and I keep it short. I did wear it long like that a decade ago though. And I am hoping you mean Mark Fidrych when he was young. He looks rather rough these days.

And Ruaidhri that is so darn cute! I would make a crude udder joke but I will be a gentleman and keep it to myself.

I was molested so many times wearing that costume. And the udders are crotch-high so I when I say "molested" I really mean it.

I've never quite been comfortable around 5' 10" Jamaican women since Halloween 2006.

That seals it, Shameless is going as a cow for Halloween.

The engineering department in my place of work always hosts a Halloween office potluck/party every year, and it's so much fun! One time a group of people dressed up as characters from Gilligan's Island. Astrosmurf gave some great costume suggestions for same-sex couples. I would like to add the Lone Ranger and Tonto to the list.

;)

C'mon, that Titanic costume is brilliant! Do that!

That's what I'm sayin'.

TrekkieMonster go as Thurston Howell III...still a Gilligan theme, bit the snappiest dresser. ;)

That is a great idea. But, I'm concerned no one would know who I was without my "Lovie".

Just finished finding all the pieces today. A friend of mine going as Jake.

That is brilliant!!!

I LOVE the Lone Ranger and Tonto idea!!!

I also came up with the UnderDog idea. Actually, that was an early idea because I happen to have a red "union suit" that I thought would be a good foundation (don't ask).

But, I was informed that there aren't a lot of people these days who would know who UnderDog is/was.

My heart wept more than a little bit with that. :(:(

^ That's a good one!

And I would like to throw in my opinion about the Titanic costume TrekkieMonster... I don't think it is in poor taste. Enough time has passed that you could get away with it. I also love the sick twist of wearing something like that on a cruise ship. There are rules for such things but I don't think they would apply here. It is kind of you to think about such things. I know some people who wouldn't.

(An example: About ten years ago the drag queens at this bar I used to frequent showed up as the dead stewardesses from a plane that had just recently crashed. They were practically booed off stage when they strolled out in their uniforms covered in blood, missing limbs and charred. The club ended up asking them all to leave. As they were being escorted out one of them wheeled around and screamed, "I don't know what your problem is, bitches. It was just a joke." Most of the bodies hadn't even been recovered yet and they thought people would find it funny? To have that lack of emotional empathy was shocking to say the least. That makes me wonder how many sick fraks are going to show up as Michael Jackson this year.)

And Shameless doesn't need encouragement with what to do with his udders. Let's move along people. Nothing to see here... :rommie:

I love it tsq! The Mighty Minnie Mouse and your new "sailor" idea are fabulous.
Thanks. :) I'm thinking the gay sailor would be a cheap costume too. I'll get some second-hand denim swabbies from a thrift shop and a really tight white tee. I've got some red suspenders and the sailor cap. I can draw on some anchor and battleship tatts and chest hair, and then slick my hair back and get a big, bushy moustache. I'm not sure the best way to go about binding the bust, though -- maybe a sports bra that's a few sizes too small?
This is from the year before as Jekyll and Hyde.

I adore this costume! The details are amazing, the hair, the ascot...

When I was 10 I dressed up like a Highlander for trick-or-treating. Well, I had the kilt, and, um, that was it actually. I didn't even have a claymore. :(

Not exactly the most sophisticated Highland getup at that age, I'll admit - I usually reserve the full Highland regalia for céilidhs, Hogmanay, and the occasional wedding. :bolian:
