Future of Paramount+ among merger talks

I agree. Sadly, Mayweather's extensive experience in deep space was somewhat undercut by the presence of T'Pol and Phlox, both of whom became the go-to alien experts.
Travis Mayweather is a character looked great on paper for ENT.

The issue was that his extensive experience amounted to having visited about five planets during his time as a "Boomer."

That means in general, Archer would have Mayweather's level of experience meeting alien cultures by the sixth episode of the series.

Add the fact that the NX-01 Enterprise was immediately traveling faster and farther than any other Earthship; any real experience Mayweather had experiencing the cultures of those five worlds in depth would have been worthless because they are quickly went beyond the current known space near Earth.

You're speaking more directly of knowledge, which yes, Mayweather would quickly not be able to help with new encounters. However, having lots of different encounters with numerous species should make Mayweather more aware of how to start dialogue with new species, cognitive tools that might help ease communications in those first moments, moreso than any of the parochial crewmates who dominate the NX-01.

He grew up in space, visited 5 planets and encountered aliens on his ship runs as a boomer. Most of the enterprise crew never met an alien except for vulcans and of course the klingon. So he should have been front and center most of the early missions. Poorly written character. Its like his chsracter was an after thought

Totally agree. Well said.

I think it'd be less about how many planets he's visited and more about how much time he's spent in space compared to the others. He literally grew up traveling the stars.

Yup.

Paramount and the FCC are talking again:

At this rate, the earliest the merger would close is July:

I hate to get into this, since it edges into politics, but reportedly Trump is demanding Paramount drop "all DEI" in order to have the merger go forward.

Considering the weirdness in how "DEI" is now interpreted, this could mean huge differences in casting and story construction going forward.

by the time they start making certain people wear armbands and register for their various afflictions, entertainment will be the least of our worries.. or maybe the only thing safe to worry about.

There IS still a little thing called the First Amendment in force.

Is Starfleet Academy now going to ditch Holly Hunter? If you like your Trek being led by white men, there are plenty of shows to choose from (Kirk, Archer, Picard, Pike).

It's one thing to have a written policy that's provable in court. It's quite another to tell Paramount "You have too many shows with women in the lead!" without sounding petty and tying up government resources in yet ANOTHER court battle in addition to the 95 lawsuits against the Administration that are currently ongoing.

Oh, you mean like how they wanted us all to carry vaccine passports everywhere we go and not be allowed in to any public establishments without presenting its constantly-updated contents?

Oh, so not like that, only the other thing...

Neither will happen, BTW. No matter who the "they" is.

I am not an American living in America. Therefore, I have very limited knowledge about what black people experienced in America in the 60s. But when you look at the diversity of actors in Hollywood, you can see that there is no way back to the period when whites were dominant and blacks were only in servant roles and Latinos were not featured at all, like in the 60s TV broadcasting. Trump will probably try to make a comeback with the worst James Bond movies of the 90s and 2000s, the mindset of Berman's Star Trek TV shows and movies from that period, or movies like American Pie. I don't want that. I am happy with the current state of Hollywood.

by "they" I am referring to American fascists and their apologists.

America is such a strange place when viewed from outside it. Your political lines are so tribal I guess is the best word.
