What are your favorite "comfort" movies? Movies you watch just to make yourself feel better; and what are movies you watch over and over just because you like them? Movies you pass while flipping through channels and just have to stop and watch.

Mine are, and there are some that fit both categories:

Comfort Movies:

  23. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  24. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  25. High Noon
  26. 12 Angry Men
  27. To Kill a Mocking Bird
There are many more, but those are the ones that best fit my question.

Funny thing, I have all of those movies except Sister Act on DVD and can watch them at anytime but I just stop to watch them on TV.

So tell me what are yours? And what do you think of my list. Please be kind.

I was thinking about doing a thread about movies that you will always watch whenever they are on. For me that's essentially comfort movies, so here are mine:

The Hunt for Red October
Fletch
National Lampoon's Vacation
Dave
Groundhog Day
City Slickers
When Harry Met Sally
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Major League
Tin Cup
National Treasure

Once Upon a Time in Mexico I can watch anytime, anywhere, and I always enjoy myself.

Sometimes when I'm bored on a weekend night I'll pop open a beer and watch ALIEN for the 30 billionth time in my life, and that too never gets old.

And every frame of SF&F classics like (original) Star Wars, Indy, and LOTR are pure joy.

Just thought of another: Good Fellas. Not really much "comfort" there, actually, now I come to think about it...

My movies I watch when I'm sick or feeling blue and need to couch it:

The Harry Potter movies because they're warm and cozy and long and I can fall asleep to them because I've read the books and seen the films a bajillion times.

Casablanca captures a mood for me that makes me feel better. It's the combination of smoke and booze and brooding. The mixture of loneliness and companionship.

The Hunt for Red October because it's a such an adventure and reminds me of my Navy days on a sub.

For me my comfort movies are:

Reality Bites
Singles
Indian Summer

They remind me of my close friends in college and for me that was the best time of my life. They help me to reminisce and remember the good times.

Movies I always watch when channel surfing are:

Braveheart
Glory
A few Good Men

I bet I've seen them a 100 times.

Pretty Woman
The Replacements(God knows why)
A Knight's Tale
A League of Their Own

for some reason I watch these whenever they are on and I'm flipping channels-And I'm usually a touch snobbish about what I watch, quality wise.

A mix:

Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain
Dr. Strangelove
All the Harry Potter films
Love Actually
Casablanca
La Vita è bella

Right now, the movie that I keep watching & rewatching & rewatching is Batman Begins. (It's the closest I can get right now to seeing The Dark Knight. Damn, I can't wait for it to be July.)

Often, when I'm feeling bummed out, it's a real pick-me-up to revisit my favorite Enterprise crews in Star Trek VI & Star Trek: First Contact.

And for some reason, I find the bleak existentialism of Daredevil very comforting.

National Treasure is on right now on the USA network. :)

I don't watch movies for "comfort" per se, but I do watch them over and over(very strange list I admit....and eclectic)

Jaws
Aliens
Terminator 2 & 3
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Tremors
Sixteen Candles
A Fish Called Wanda
Fletch
Christmas Vacation(but usually closer to the holidays)
Star Wars: A New Hope
Singin' in the Rain
Jurassic Park
The Incredibles

This is just a partial list without having to go through my discs themselves.....

Star Wars movies
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Airplane!
Top Secret!
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
Mystery Men
Iron Giant

Planet of the Apes
Escape From the Planet of the Apes

Jersey Girl
Any of the 007 films
Rocky Balboa
X2
Psycho
Psycho II
Frankenstein
The Bride of Frankenstein

The Remains of the Day
When Harry Met Sally...
The Best Years of Our Lives
All About Eve
Howards End
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
My Favourite Wife
