I saw this one of my feeds on facebook, and thought I would pass it on here

...it is with the greatest sadness I have known that I have to inform you that Jonathan Hardy has passed away...as some of you may know, Jonathan was the voice of Rygel in Farscape and also oscar nominated for the screenplay of Breaker Morant... he was also a guest at our first ever convention. I wanted him at my first show and he was touched that I thought that much of him. In the years since we kept in regular contact, booked him for the occasional convention and met for a meal when in towns together. I made a point of seeing any play he was in while in Melbourne as it's a rare chance to see such talent. He was funny and warm and loved his fans (even if he was just a glove puppet). He held my daughter when she was only 3 months old... Goodbuy my friend...

Very sad news about a wonderful man who voiced Rygel.

I saw that you had shared it and was shocked. How old was he. He and the puppeteers really did bring Rygel to live and enhanced the show greatly.

RIP. :(

I've been watching random of episodes of Farscape the last couple weeks, and now I'm really bummed out. Rygel is one of the coolest characters ever conceived, and considering he's a puppet, that's saying something.

awww :( I always loved Rygel best.

You know, I don't usually feel old. But with all these Star Trek and other SciFi actors dying lately, I get reminded that I have only another 20 or 30 years left myself. And most of the actors I like have even less! It's frustrating :(

Ugh. Damn.

RIP, Jonathan...

Rhubarbodendron, fates willing I have more time (I'm 24) but I still somewhat nodded while reading your post. I'm rewatching Babylon 5, and although the series has only been off the air for fourteen years, three of its actors are dead. I watched a scene with the three of them together and scratched my head a little.

We're all mortals, but man, it can be hard to come to terms with some of the seemingly simpler aspects of that, like remembering that television icons are ultimately just fellow human beings on the other side of a camera, or in Mr. Hardy's case, voices in the wilderness of TV land.

We're all on our way out. We do what we can with the time we're given. Jonathan Hardy, Andreas Katsulas, DeForest Kelley. They all went to wherever we go having done wonders for us. Regardless of age, I can't think of a better definition of a reasonably full life than to make us smile, both in life and afterward.

Wow...what a bummer. In a way, one of my dogs (named Rygel) is named for him. He 'made' that character what he was. Which was hilarious!

RIP

And we've been re-watching the series with a few friends over the past few weeks. :(

But it happens and life goes on.

^

Before I had to leave Austin awhile back, I hosted weekly Farscape viewings at my apartment, always had five or so folks over every Monday night for two episodes at a time...

Good times.

Oh man. That's horrible news. If you watch some of the footage on the DVDs before Hardy's voice replaces the puppeteer's it is just nowhere near the same voice quality. This man was truly talented.

Rest in Peace Dominar Rigel, you brought me years of enjoyment with your travels on Moya

Wow, very sad news indeed. Rygel was one of my favorite characters.
Thanks for sharing those videos.
