ENTERPRISE "Wherever You Will Go"

No. If we're using a pop song, THIS would have been perfect, at least for the first couple of seasons, summing up mankind's frustration in the show with the Vulcans blocking their progress, and some of mankind's frustration in the real world with bureaucrats and politicians doing so.

Later it could have changed to "Faith of the Heart", which I like, indicating that things were getting better.

"Wherever You Will Go" is a good song, but it isn't really about exploration, it is about devotion to a loved one.

Oh, neat; I haven't heard this song in years. Thank you for posting it. And, yeah, I can definitely see it.

The original Enterprise promos did use "Whereever You Will Go", which is why I assume the person who made the video used it. But honestly, although "Faith of the Heart" may not be a great song, its lyrics are fitting for Enterprise, so I think it's probably a better choice for the theme song.

I do remember the original promos using Wherever You Will Go. And to be honest it kinda spoke to me as an old Trek fan, that knew this show was going somewhere I never begged for it to go and didn't really care it was going there, that they (the producers) knew there were fans who didn't ask for this show, or didn't necessarily ask for this era show, but being trek fans, they hoped fans like me would go wherever they took it. Anyway... I never got into the show but I saw a couple episoes online last week and I am going to watch some more of it.

I like what they did, but I also kinda wish they had *parodied* "Faith of the Heart" for the opening of the Mirror Universe episodes. "We took the wrong road.... getting from there to here...." ;)

I was disappointed when they didn't use this song after using it in a lot of promotional material. I wouldn't see myself fast forwarding the intro if I had to listen to that instead.

For the mirror universe episodes, they should have used 'The Touch'...

"After all is said and done
You've never walked, you've never run,
You're a winner!
"

Would have been perfect.

As a theme for a Star Trek show it would have been just as bad as "Faith Of The Heart".

I like this song, it brings back a lot of sweet memories ... but as a theme song for a Star Trek show? No way!

the instrumental used in the end credits (which I rarely heard during the initial run because they'd cut the end credits and show commercials over top of them IIRC) should have been used

What about the OFFICIAL Star Trek song, instead? The very same one penned by Gene Roddenberry, himself. Set to appropriate music, who knows? It might've even received an awared. At least it's not too late ... that can still happen with the next series.

I've posted this elsewhere, but Archer's Theme (the piece you're referring too) along with the traditional Trek monologue by Bakula as Archer, was once released on StarTrek.com back while ENT was still on the air (or shortly after it was cancelled), so I believe it was initially considered, but execs at UPN wanted a pop song to catch the attention of a new audience.

It was not penned by Gene Roddenberry. Alexander Courage wrote the original Star Trek Theme. Roddenberry later wrote lyrics, ensuring he received royalties for the song rather than them all going to Courage.

That pop song choose as theme was the single worst element in all Star Trek and a definitive factor in the poor ratings of the series Enterprise.

Archer's Theme, from the end credits; or Wherever You Will Go would have been better than Faith of the Heart. Either of the songs with vocals though, will date the show a ton. ENT will look very dated, very soon, because of that song.

The problem with ENTERPRISE using a Pop Song as theme music is that it could've been ANY song. It just draws attention to that fact and is very distracting, during the credits. If it was an original song, made up specifically for this show, or at the very least, for STAR TREK, then that argument just isn't there. But ENTERPRISE could've used 3rd Eye Blind's "Jumper," or Staind's "Outside" for all the sense that move made. It all comes down now, to someone's preferences. Like I'm being subjected to Rick Berman's personal taste in music, in that sense.

I agree with the initial post. Would have been perfect. I mean, the promo that they used it in was made quite catchy and memorable for me by that song, and I remember being frickin excited for the new show because of it.
