Earth-Romulan War in the mirror universe and how it fits into canon

Although much is made about the Earth-Romulan War in the prime universe, nothing much is mentioned about the Earth-Romulan War in the mirror universe.

There aren't much sources to go one besides what's on Memory Beta. According to Memory Beta...

- It's also known as the Terran-Romulan War, and the First Romulan War. And was waged between the Terran Empire and Romulan Republic. Although no specific start date is listed, the end date is the same in the prime universe, 2160.

- The Terrans failed to subjugate the Romulans, however the Terran Empire suffered few causalities on their side

- The Romulus relied on spies and subterfuge to gain an early advantage.

- In 2160 Romulans offered a truce, which the Terran Empire agreed to as they saw it as a resource costly war. And they felt that they could subjugate the Romulans at a later date when secret technological advancements rendered cloaking tech ineffective and obsolete. Or they had the tech themselves.

- Romulans were left behind their own border (i.e. their side of the Neutral Zone) that was patrolled by Starfleet.

- However, its also suggested that the Romulans briefly established a beachhead on Earth and enslaved Terrans. The Terrans eventually overthrew the Romulans and fought them out of their space.

- Later sources suggest that the Terran Empire lasted well into the 24th century, with the Romulans having be “cleansed from their homeworlds” by 2367. As in the mirror universe, the Terran pushed beyond Cheron and to Romulus and Remus. After destroying Remus, the Romulans were offered to become a subject race to the Terran Empire, only for the populace to commit mass suicide on the even of their decision. The Terrans would then proceed to sack Romulus and gain more tech advancements.

------------

Based upon what was seen in the mirror universe episodes for ENT, DIS, TOS & DS9, its interesting to see how well this beta canon lines up with these canon series of events.

The Terrans already had Suliban cloak in ENT, although its also acknowledge in Enterprise that Romulan cloaks operate on a different phase variance from Suliban cloaks. They also had a Constitution class vessel that they could reverse engineer that they brought back from the prime universe, so its unclear as to how 22nd century Romulan Birds of Prey could overrun 23rd century Constitution class vessels that they end up establishing a beachhead on Earth. Outside from hiring spies from conquered world to sabotage the Constitution class vessels on a grand scale, similar to what mirror Phlox did.

After the conquest of Romulus in the 22nd century, the Terran Empire manages to conquer Qonos by the mid-23rd century. And a rebellion consisting of Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites call the Coalition is formed. Denobulans, Coridanites, and Rigelians will soon follow.

Seeing as the Occupation of Bajor in the prime timeline was between 2319 and 2369, and its acknowledged that the Terran Empire occupied Bajor for decades in the mirror universe, its believable that the fall of the Terran Empire happened by the mid-2360s after occupying Bajor in the mid-24th century. Its not like mirror Spock’s reforms would have happened overnight. It likely would have been very gradual, and its effects of weakening the Terran Empire would happen over time.

It could also explain the fate of the ISS Enterprise-D, which could have participated in a last stand in the 2360s before being destroyed by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.

The Romulan Republic is noted to exist in the 24th century. Suggesting that the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance liberated the Romulans from the Terrans, although that state they are in is not made clear. Its also not made clear as to what happened to cloaking tech in the mirror universe by the 24th century, from the Romulans or any other species or power.
