Do i need to watch previous seasons/episodes, or can i jump right in?

So my wife decided to subscribe to Paramount Plus so we can watch season 2 of Lioness, so i am trying to, in between work and family, try to catch up on a whole bunch of stuff i have missed...

So i just finished all of Picard. While I am considering Strange New Worlds, i know from the platform that Lower Decks has new episodes.

Is it OK to jump right in? Of course, there will be jokes and context that previous show smight have, but can i reasonably jump in any way?

Even though it is an episodic show, I feel you lose something if you just jump into the fifth season cold turkey.

Lower Decks is a series you should absolutely watch from the start, more for character reasons than plot reasons. Though there are some ongoing threads as well.

I found the seasons go pretty quick. Episodes are short and there are only 10 of them per season. Watch from the beginning to get the full experience.

Can you? Sure. Should you? Personally, I don't think so. I agree with the others in the thread: you will definitely get more out of the show if you start from the beginning.

If you're more into character development, watch from the beginning. If the story of the week is your focus, you can jump right in, and still catch up with the beginnings till the next new one comes out

If you're asking about the series: it acts as a 4th series to 90's Trek (TNG-DS9-VOY) in animated form, there's LOOOTS of references to those 3 shows and Star Trek as a franchise overall. If you're not new to Star Trek, you'll be fine. If you're talking about S5, it's the final season, just watch it from the beginning. When it's done and over, there's only going to be 50 epsiodes total.
