Constantine - Season 1

Perhaps a scenario like auntiehill's might happen, But a complete name change and at the same time moving the show to another network... too high a risk to lose a chunk of the audience.

Sounds like a good plan, cast, crew and sets are already in place, a move to syfy might be quite a bit cheaper than a completely original project... As for the name change... no bloody chance in hell.
The comic is adding Hellblazer to it's title.

Syfy's done it in the past with the excellent show G vs. E (which they renamed Good vs Evil when they got their hands on it). I believe it was originally on USA. The ratings dropped like a stone when they did it, too.

Well, they've already failed to capture a large general audience, which is why its odds of survival on NBC are low. So the kind of casual viewers who'd lose track of the show through a network/title change aren't watching it anyway. But it does have a loyal cult audience, the kind of audience that would follow it wherever it went. And a cable network is a better fit for cult/niche shows.

Of course it wouldn't be a guarantee for success, but nothing ever is. Everything in TV is a gamble. But taking a chance on keeping the show alive has got to be a better option than just cancelling it.

That was the name of the original comic for 25 years. So it's more like "restoring" than "adding."

It's a subtitle "Constantine: The Hellblazer", so a little bit of both.

Read it from issue one.

It's pretty obvious Hellblazer was the actual title, even with John Constantine as the prefix of it.

If it keeps the show alive, I'm all for the name/network change. They might lose a few of the casual viewers, but I think if they make sure the fans of the show know that it'll be making the move people will follow. It'd be a great fit on Syfy, they already have Lost Girl, Dominion, and Bitten.

Boy, am I sorry to hear the (possible) cancellation talk in the thread because I REALLY like this show. It has zoomed past Grimm to become must see (or "must record") TV on Friday nights. I do still watch Grimm but it is not on the same level as Constantine.

The show appears to have some great growth potential with a charismatic lead and two sidekicks with really interesting abilities.

Really hope NBC gives it a second seasonm NBC or SyFy. C'mon peacocks, it's Friday, who cares?

At this point I will actually be annoyed if it doesn't get renewed. This show has definitely continued to improve week-by-week. I'm glad that other measures are at least being considered rather than the possibility of it just being outright cancelled.

I totally missed that the black diamond was related to Eclipso. I haven't read comic books for 22 years now so it's inevitable that I'd forget a lot of stuff.

Whoa...
Manny's behind the rising darkness?!? I did not see that coming.

I always felt there was something a bit creepy about that guy. And it explains his usual "I don't get involved" policy. Now I hope the show gets renewed so we can get a followup to this revelation.

However, this episode itself was... very uncomfortable. On the one hand, what the bad guy was doing was intensely creepy and disturbing. On the other hand, the way it was presented was awkward and clumsy. It was initially unclear that the three "wives" were having some kind of hypnotic effect on Vesta, so there was just this strange kind of scene where a teenage girl who should've been terrified and running for her life was inexplicably into the prospect of "marrying" a complete stranger. Also, I could've done without the grossly caricatured Cajun accent on the villain. By now we should be past the stereotype that a Southern accent equals evil or stupidity, but TV shows still persist in giving the strongest, most exaggerated accents to the most malicious or dimwitted characters. (On the CW's Star-Crossed, a show supposedly set in Louisiana, the only character who actually had a Southern accent was the head of the violent anti-alien hate group.) Really, this show has been fraught with lazy and unflattering stereotypes.

Also, naming a virgin "Vesta" is kind of on the nose.

The actor playing Corrigan wasn't quite as awful here as he was the first time, but still, hasn't anyone ever taught this guy how to project? He has the quietest voice I've ever heard from an actor. He also doesn't make eye contact much with the other actors, so there's no chemistry. It's like he's in his own little world, muttering to himself. Is Corrigan supposed to be a high-function autistic or something? Then his performance might actually make sense.

The one thing I've really loved about the past couple of episodes is the way Zed looks at Manny. That just seems to be the exact way someone who believes would look at an angel.

I really wished that this show could have gotten a second series.
I have never read the comics or seen the film so my knowledge of Constantine comes only from the show but would have loved to know what is Manny's plan for Constantine.

We still haven't found out for sure it isn't getting a second season. There have been rumors going around that they might rename it Hellblazer and move it to Syfy.

I gather the show is much closer to the comics than the movie was (though I haven't read the comics or seen the movie). But Manny is an original character created for the show, as far as I know.

That was a pretty good episode.
I did not expect the twist at the end. I really hope we get a second season, or some kind of follow up, because that was a hell of a twist, and it would drive me crazy if that was the last scene of the entire series.

^Just so you know, my mother was from Virginia.

And such a lovely accent, no doubt! ;)

(My nephew's ex is from South Carolina - the kind of area that Jeff Foxworthy made fun of. I think the term 'trailer trash' may have originated there. DEEP south. I could barely understand a word that woman said! - plus she was a meth dealer, drug addict and career thief. Not that that has anything to do with her accent. But it didn't help! :borg: )
