Christmas Watch 2016

They are all over New England. But the closest one to me right now is somewhere in Alabama.

I've started seeing Christmas stuff in craft stores, but no major displays yet. It's all autumn and back to school.

in Bavaria, we have a Christmas museum :) http://www.weihnachtsmuseum.de/en/

I loathe getting into contact with Christmas before December. These gingerbread sales in August are spoiling the fun. In their greed to make money the shops forget that if you can have something all the year it stops being special and loses ist appeal.

OTOH, I wouldn't mind it if pumpkin spice season started creeping earlier and earlier each year.

It doesn't look like we have a pumpkin spice uber-thread set up yet this year, so I guess this is as good a place as any...

I've been thinking about it for some weeks now. I do a lot of crafting for Xmas. And I have majority of it done and ready by this time of year. However, this year my brain is racked. I will figure out something.

I was in the Disney store here in Dublin last week and they have some pretty funky Star Wars themed christmas ornimates and as we got rid of our tree and decorations before the move I might get a couple when we get our new tree and stuff.

I still gotta wonder: Are there people actually buying christmas stuff as early as August?! I don't mean ornaments or presents, where it could be said they just want to have this taken care of, but the candy, in the supermarkets. The chocolate Santas, the way too rich for Indian Summer cakes, the chocolate-laced gingerbread in christmassy shapes. What kind of person would buy something like that while it's still 30 degrees Celsius (or 86 degrees Fahrenheit) outside?!

UK and nothing yet where I am. I suspect things will start appearing shortly after September starts. It usually starts in the Supermarket and Bargain stores.

I do tend to try and get my christmas shopping done early (if only to avoid the crowds) but I'd prefer it if they didn't start heavily featuring Christmas stuff until after Halloween (of perhaps Bonfire night)

Lets just say I work in retail, and Mince Pies are already out, but in essence stores operate 3 seasons, Easter, Christmas and Summer. Of course between now and Christmas you have minor events like Halloween and Bonfire Night. But invaariable come Easter Sunday you have people coming asking to you have any Easter Egss despite that they've been in since January, and 1st Dec is do you have any Advent calanders left despite them being in stores since September(ish). Sure people might comment on having Mince Pies in, but people still buy them. If no one bought Christmas lines this far out stores wouldn't stock them, they are simpoly catering to demand. Same with opening hours if no one went shopping Sundays/BH's etc.. stores would soon close those days.

This thread was the first Christmas anything I've seen this year. I have a feeling Costco is probably setting things up now as we speak. They're usually one of the first ones.

They're way ahead of you. The Costco I go to had trees and lights and stuff out for sale the last time I was there on August 31. I just mentally blocked it until you just brought it flooding back. So thank you for that.

I'm sorry. That was what this thread was about though.

I bought my Holiday Barbie dolls in August. I usually get them when they come out. I have the complete series from 1988 through 2016. In December I will set the others out for my Christmas decor.

I was in Hobby Lobby the other day, and I swear half the store was Christmas stuff. Not just crafting supplies, but trees, ornaments, decorations...at least there was a good chunk of the store devoted to fall/Halloween/ Thanksgiving.
