We went to one at the weekend which was also a housewarming, so the host dubbed it a "HouseBurning party". It was excellent. She had veggie haggis for those inclined thus, so we tried it for a change (with a dram chucked into the mix of course). It was surprisingly pleasant but I think I prefer the real thing.

For some of us it's an unshakeable stigma.

Because it's an excuse to get drunk ? That's what St. Patricks Day is for, I assumed Burns Night was the same.

People don't tend to get drunk at Burns night for some reason. I suppose it's a welcome relief from the 364 other days.
