Bridge Commander

PhoenixIreland

Captain
Captain
Two issues with this game:

1. The first officer is quite annoying, barking orders at you as if she was the one in charge, telling you to do things you're already in the progress of doing etc...

2. I'm stuck the second mission in, two cardassian ships warp away and I'm supposed to disable the ferengi ship left behind, so I target their warp engines and am firing phasers and torpedoes (when they will actually fire...) at them for 2-3 solid minutes and their engines are only down by maybe 25%, then the thing goes to warp and thats that.

How do you get past this point? it's driving me nuts, I cant disable that ship no matter what I do, if I do it manually it wont' disable it, and if I let the tactical officer do it he's even worse, for long periods of 7-8 seconds he'll sit there doing nothing.

EPISODE 2
"Know Thine Enemy"

-When you arrive in the Vesuvi System, press Set Course, click Vesuvi, and
choose Geki Colony, then Warp. When you arrive at the Geki Colony, tell Kiska
to
orbit the planet.
-When you enter orbit, Hail the Geki Colony. Your teams and supplies will beam
to the surface.
-You will now receive a distress signal from a Cardassian freighter that has
been attacked by a Romulan Warbird. Kiska says the signal is coming from the
Beol system, so Set Course for there and Warp.
-When you arrive you'll pick up two contacts. Target one and order Kiska to
Intercept, when you get closer, they'll be revealed as the Cardassian freighter
Karoon and Romulan Warbird Soryak. The Romulans are towing the Soryak into the
asteroid belt. When you get close, Torenn will contact you, tell you the
Cardassians on the freighter are smugglers, and leave.
-The Karoon is drifting, and in order to prevent it from hitting an asteroid,
target it, tell Kiska to Intercept, and engage the tractor beam. The tractor
beam may be out of range, but will engage automatically when it is in range.
When the Karoon is stopped, you can release the tractor beam. The Cardassian
Gul
will contact you.
-The Romulan Warbird will then decloak and fire on you. So go to Red Alert and
fight back.
-When you have damaged them enough, the Romulans will leave.
-After the Romulans are gone, the Gul will contact you again, and when you ask
what he's carrying, he'll say relief supplies for a Cardassian outpost. But
he's
got a dampening field over the ship, so when Miguel scans him he can't read
anything, indicating that the Cardassians are hiding something.
-Admiral Liu will contact you and tell you to go to Serris to invesigate
suspicious activities. But you can't warp from inside the asteroid field, so
click Kiska, press Nav Point, and choose Field Exit. When you arrive at Field
Exit, you can go to warp.
-When you arrive in Serris, tell Miguel to Scan Area. He'll say he's seeing
readings near Serris 2, and Felix says you can probably escape notice if you
take shields and weapons offline. So make sure you're on Green Alert, and Warp
to Serris 2.
-Tell Miguel to Scan Area again, and he'll pick up three ships - a Cardassian
Galor, a Cardassian Keldon, and a Frengi Marauder, the Krayvis.
-YOu can't read their communications because of the planet, so go into orbit
around the planet's only moon (make SURE weapons and shields are off). Click
Brex and boost Sensor power to 125 percent, and Kiska will be able to pick up
the signal. As it turns out, the Ferengi are delivering military supplies to
the
Cardassians, despite the fact that this has been forbidden by a treaty.
-The Cardassians will leave, and the Krayvis will begin powering up to leave.
Close in on the Krayvis and disable its Warp Engines (that's where they're gray
on the damage bar - but make sure you don't destroy them).
-DaiMon Pragg will contact you, and he'll claim he knows nothing about what he
was transporting.
Manual fire is the best you can do. Boost your weapons power to 125%.
Make sure you're firing right into the cross hair and just keep bearing down.
Use a tractor beam to hold them in place, should they try to escape.

I've beaten the game repeatedly and after a while loses a bit of it's edge. That being said, I downloaded and installed the Kobayashi Maru mod and the game has elevated itself to total awesome once again.

Good luck!

I tried three more attemps,

Each time firing manually directly into the cross hairs

Two times there was just a dent of damage and it took 2 minutes for any dent to appear, the ship then went to warp...while in a tractor beam...
The third time I disabled one of their warp engines and they went to warp with the other one...

I figured out a way to disable him, I was concentrating on one engine and he was using the other to get away, so when one was down to 50% I went to the other, they were disabled when both were at 50%

Stuch on the mission with the Cardassians and the station now, I think I've identified the problem:

Sometimes it's ok to let the tactical guy do the firing, other times it's better to do it manually because for some reason he often sits there after the destroy order doing nothing.

However...

1. When I try to fire phasers, instead of the crosshairs of my phasers appearing, sometimes a circle does then the crosshairs for 1-2 seconds then the circle and when the circle is there you can't fire, 2/3 of the time you cant fire phasers, and they don't seem to do much damage...

2. There is no way to get a torpedo lock, you just fire at a spot and the ship moves out of the way before they hit.

All this time you've got that veery annoying first officer beside you shoting orders, I tried to engage the cardie ships literally 2 seconds before they opened fire on the station to get a jump on them so they'd do less damage to it, and she releived me of command, she she also did that in the middle of a battle one time, said I attacked the station, I did no such thing.

Also boost the engines power to maximum, use the tractor beam, target one engine of the marauder at a time until each one is destroyed. Shoot to kill not disable. The game won't let you damage the ship enough for total destruction.

Yeah, the game looks like it's free and open, but it's not. It's very linear. You're only Captain as long as you follow the game story. You try to change it and suddenly you're relieved of command. Download and install the Kobayashi Maru mod pack, and you can do whatever you want. For example, I had a quick battle out in the middle of deep space as Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise B, taking on a bird of prey. Once that was done, I warped out system to Deep Space Nine, and travelled through the Wormhole to the Delta Quadrant. Lots, lots of fun.

I second the Kobayashi Maru mod. It's awesome. The game is basically worthless without it. Not to say the campaign is terrible, but the KM mod is what really makes BC a worthwhile title.

Well on the plus side I gots me a soverign now :)
I used to hate the design but now I'm starting to really like it, seeing it from all diffrent angles in cinematic play.

I downloaded the KM mod but I'm no quite sure how to install it?

Thank you for all the help I'll give the mod a try.

I would fire that first officer if the game gave me that chance (actually would have done it on the first mission)

On the mission where the taskforce lands shuttles to retake the station ive been nearly destroyed several times now, and have tried to warp out to save the ship, the plan was then to follow the lead ship on to whereever it was going afterwards.

Each time I hit the warp button she prevents us from leaving "leaving now will jeprodise our mission" she says , 2-3 seconds later the ship explodes, do ye think the ship being destroyed might jeprodise our mission bitch?

None of the mods on that site seem to work, maybe I'm putting them into the wrong folder?
I was trying to get more powerful phasers.

Before the freighters ram the star base in one mission they didn't pop up on the tactical display even when right on top of the starbase, so I could not target them, another time they popped up but phasers could not take them all out in time (Migel tends to sit there a lot rather than fire and manual fire does not work)

Yeah, Bridge Commander mods tend to have more complex installations than in other games. Make sure you always read the readme.

That was because they restricted access to the code for the game for so long. Totally Games didn't want it to be modded from what I remember.

Bad part about the mods though: If you want to play through the entire storyline sometimes the mods prevent that from happening.

I don't understand the anti-modding mindset. It's one of the few areas where PCs have an enormous edge over consoles. Yeah, consoles allow custom content to some extent, but nowhere near the level PC game modding allows.

Deliberately making it hard to mod a game kills its value to a lot of people.

My favorite example is Quake: a rather mediocre game, by itself, but moved epic numbers of units because it was completely moddable. Things like Team Fortress and Counter-Strike wouldn't exist without that.

On more than one occasion I ended up basically destroying my installation of BC with a mod. And many mods conflict with others that are out there. So it can be very tricky.

I ended up spending an enormous amount of time (and disc space) backing up everything before installing even the smallest mod.

Reading this thread makes me want to dust off my copy of the game and check it out again - it's been years now since I've played it.
