Even as a very, very, young kid I could see what they were doing with that one, it was so obvious.
Other than F Troop, did Ken Berry ever have a TV show that wasn't a spin off of something else?

I was going to say Mama Family but I remembered that was sort of a spin off of the Carol Barnett show family skits.

Diagnosis Murder was a spinoff of Jake and The Fat man which was sorta a spin-off from Matlock.

The Office (US version) tried to use a backdoor pilot to spin off The Farm for Dwight Shcrute's character, but it was pretty obviously not going to work.

Initially the faulty copier from the Office was supposed to wind up in the first season of Parks and Rec to provide some kind of link to the two series but it never happened.

There were some TV movies in the 80's called Code of Vengeance that were originally supposed to be part of the first season of a show called All The Glitters that was a spinoff of Knight Rider that failed to happen, except for the backdoor pilot, Mouth of the Snake.
