Attention people! Please read!!!

You wanna get nitpicky?

"Vacume"

It's "Vac-u-um". Yes, it's 3 syllables. Vac-you-um.

Say it.

SAY IT, DAMMIT!

That felt good. ;)

Valen Times Day is when the Minbari celebrate the first appearance of the savior of their race, complete with his grey hair and Vorlon escort. :)

I have to mispronounce Worcestershire (sauce) to spell it right, otherwise I would forget and slay it: Woustershir?

Did anybody see the Simpsons episode, I can't remember which one because I just saw the short clip, where Mr. Burns is in the grocery store talking out loud to himself, "Ketchup...Catsup...Ketchup...Catsup" trying to figure out which one to buy. I think it is just before they take him away.

I know someone who has been watching Star Trek a long time and to this day, no matter how much I correct them, they call Klingons Klayons. I have to close my eyes and hum to keep from saying anything anymore. I give up.

Once in a while silicon and silicone throw me. Don't laugh, I hardly use them. :)

warsh - as in, George Warshington is the father of our country.

Seriously though the American pronunciation of English was in many ways a deliberate departure from old world dialects, in an attempt to make a level economic playing field. One of the great things about US pronunciations is that, by listening to someone speak, you have no idea of how important or unimportant a person they really are - and are not bound by preconceptions of your relationship with them based on region or class.

Well that's the idea, anyway. In practice, everyone wants to be southern!

Sorry, you don't get that one. It's not incorrect to say vacume. American Heritage Dictionary lists three possible pronunciations - vac-you-um, vac-yoom, and vac-yum. ('cept they have technical symbols for this sort of thing! )

vac-you-um: Snobbies who wear sweaters tied by the sleeves around their necks.

Vac-yoou: Everyone else, save...

Vac-yum: George W. Bush
