Anyone remember Pee-Chees?

So once again we're out buying school supplies for my son, and once again my wife and I get nostalgic for the simple days of the pee-chee. The simple yellow and brown folders with really dated sports pictures on them, and really cool metric conversion tables and other stuff inside.
I used to have a separate one for each class, and they were perfect for doodling on, usually band logos and stuff. I've tried to see if anyone is still selling them, but Mead stopped producing them about 10 years ago.
Any old timers remember these?

Oh yeah.

I had gobs of those Pee Chee folders over the years.

Back in the Dark Ages (AKA the 70's) you couldn't go to school without them.

Never heard of them. By the 80's we had upgraded our folder technology to Trapper Keepers.

Back in the 60s we had three ring notebooks covered in blue cloth. I do feel sorry for T'Bonz though. Carrying those stone tablets around had to be a strain. :(

I remember Pee-Chees and Trapper Keepers. My school district didn't like Trapper Keepers... Can't understand why, though...

Yep, I had both Pee-Chees and Trapper Keepers. Although, I liked the Trapper folders much better than the binder.

But nothing beats the plain old Denim-Blue canvas three-ring binder. I remember taking my trusty EraserMate pen and trying full in the tiny squares to spell out my initials or something equally important.

I still have about 4 or 5 unused Pee-Chees. So many opportunities for artistic "alterations".

Also, I loved the blue cloth binders. The covers were so thick I think they qualified as lethal weapons.

Why?

I never figured that one out--it was true in a lot of other school districts I saw in that time.

Hell, for that matter, WHY do schools insist every child have the exact same brand of supplies and organize their stuff in the exact same way? Is it just to discourage individuality and force everyone to have the exact same methods and learning style, or what???

This Ebay listing has some pictures: http cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-60s-PEE-CHEE-PORTFOLIO-SCHOOL-FOLDER-

Vintage-60's? Vintage? Good grief I've become 'of olden days.'

Pee Chees ruled.

This made me laugh out loud. Really hard. But then, what goes around comes around. My kids asked me if I had electricity when I was growing up, or, "Mommy did you have cars when you went to school or did you use horses?"

I liked the metal lunchboxes with TV or movie themes.

Oh, and the Mucilage.

Had the Pee-Chees, had the Trapper Keepers. I think I vaguely remember the blue cloth binders. I remember more the binders that were just incredibly cheap colored plastic with the little colored taps that separated the sections.

I never had any of these things, though other kids had Trapper Keepers. I always had the big Five Star cloth binders with the zipper. You could keep your whole life in one of those things!

Man I loved drawing on those peechee people.. The outdated chick playing tennis was one of my favorite artistic targets. I hated those damn things and last tie I had one was 3rd grade.

Schools really hated those trapper keepers though...

I loved mine!
mine was -is . . . I think I still have it- black with a brown suede spine
between classes I would go to my locker and get the book or two for the next class and zip it up in there

and later on, I made my own folder book
I took 7 or 8 regular folders with the tines for looseleaf paper, and I duct taped them together so I had one big book of folders that I kept all my homework in, plus all those hundreds of doodles that I did :D

I have come to destroy that Trapper Keeper, because it was the Dawson's Creek Trapper Keeper that belongs to an Eric Cartman in South Park which three years from now manifests itself into an omnipotent superbeing, and destroys all of humonity. In the year two thousand and four a hybrid-assimilating computer linked with a satellite uplink computer. From there it was able to slowly take over every computer in the world.

I don't remember any Pee Pee's but does anybody remember the Buitoni Pizza's (may have spelled that wrong)... which were a cheesy & saucy disc of love.

:rommie: What a great thread!

I had the Pee-Chee conversation with friends a couple months ago. I was sort of on the "cusp", if you will, between Mallory's blue fabric 2-ring binders and Pee-Chees. By Junior High School, though, it was all about the Pee-Chee, and all the interesting ways you could think of it color in the basketball player and the baseball player, and I remember guys doing unspeakable things to the poor tennis player. LOL!

Oh, and remember the conversion chart and stuff on the inside cover?

This is actually the version I remember:

Ahh, memories.

Trapper Keepers were after my time, and I personally think they signified the beginning of the end times. But maybe that's just me.
