AndyP's Trek building thread

Very cool! I can totally see Riker strutting into the scene!

BTW, I had posted in another thread that I happened to find an online recreation of that pyramid game, called Pair Match. Thought I'd share: https://archive.org/details/hh_pairmtch
Nice! I'll have to try playing it.

For the pyramid game I found a git repository that had recreated the image of the central light diodes, which I used for the texture.

We. Have. Designer BAR STOOOOOLLLLLSSSSSS!!!!!!!

I had some more time today so I continued working on my to do list for 10 forward. And modeled the barstools, in under 2 hours. :)

I grabbed the dimensions and reference images from here. Also shout out to @Rekkert and https://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/database/chairs-trek.htm

Cool, coming along nicely, so in theory you could actually recreate these bar stools for real eh? ;)

@Santaman let me get a 3d printer! :)

I've added the black tape details to the replicators as well as modeled the 3d checkers game that was featured in season 2.

At this point I'm starting to reach the point of not sure what to look at next. I could model behind the bar... I know in some episodes there were key pads on the bar?

I think this could mean that I am ready to move on to my next set.

Nice work!

Didn't Guinan hide a phaser rifle somewhere back there? ;)

@David cgc I did not think anything of it at the time, but now looking at screenshots of the episode, it's very obvious. For now I am going to be using a mirror material in those sections, but it will not be perfectly smooth, it will have a bit of a fog to it. For blender users, a Glossy BSDF material, with roughness set to .06125.

I always assumed they were cutaway sections and there were other lounges/function rooms on the other side, as @David cgc mentions. The show presumably used mirrors like they did with jeffries tubes in order to extend the set without straining their budget, but I'd personally be tempted to model the area as a cutout.

I didn't expect to get a canonical answer to this, but Jörg Hillebrand just posted that there's a shot in Ten-Forward while the ship is at warp that shows they are "really" cutouts, and not windows (or that rendering reflected warp streaks would've been too much trouble).

I saw it on Mastodon, but I've been trying to remember that the board supports embedding from a wide variety of websites, now, so let's try the Facebook post:

Very nice! Anyone know what those game pieces were made from? I've spent years trying to figure them out. :)
I haven't been able to figure it out yet, to me it looks like some sort of a clip.

It makes sense for it to be cutouts, I would image the physical set used mirrors there to make it easier to composite the star streaks because the mirror would reflect the bluescreen.

I've started working on my next set, this will be a sickbay set. I want this set to have 4 biobed bays (similar to the galaxy class), with the surgical bay (similar to Voyager's sickbay). Since I previously created some of this set for the Nova class sickbay posted previously, I am going to try to reuse as much of that set as possible. The biobeds are based off of the version that was seen with Star Trek the Exhibition tour, however I might rebuild parts of it as the original beds blueprints are now readily available.

Note: the scene is brighter than what I intend for the final renders. I am currently using AgX for color management with no contrast settings, for the final renders I intend to use AgX with punchy

Love how that surgical bay's looking!
Thank you! I'm debating on how detailed I want to go with the panels, most people don't realize that they used the same leach line material on the panels, but I can't find detailed closeups

For the sensor cluster I started with the base size of the set which has a radius of 8', but as I cannot find detailed plans for it, I used this screenshot for reference.

eventually I want to put some of the ATM style monitors from DS9, but I cannot find a lot of reference material outside of screenshots.
