Airiam

After watching After Trek, i can't help wondering if she's an Ex-Borg, who somehow ended up in Federation space with an memory loss and joined Starfleet.
It's really strange that the crew profiles just showed her background as being a technological augmented alien without a name for her species. That's suspicious imo...

That would be some Ferengi on ENT level fanwank

[...]did appear on Enterprise. Better to leave that alone.

Yes. That's the best thing to do with Enterprise.

"Doctor gave me a pill and I grew a new kidney."
And is she... fully functional?
Fully Functional.

[...]Indeed, a potential reboot of Star Trek could involve such a situation, with many of the familiar races being offshoot colonies lacking Earth's squeamishness about such things.

Why would it have to be a reboot? Just incorporate it as part of the existing continuity. For all we know Mars or even the Lunar colonies allow genetic engineering.

See I can do it too.
Snorkel.

So basically, you've got a split-second of some walk-on shuffling around under a ton of make-up and everyone's getting all excited and making up back stories for it?

Works for Star Wars. The have name and backstories for everyone. Even that alien in the cantina that you can only see 1/3rd of his body.

They could be written to be a Bynar using some type of upgraded or experimental tech, though probably not.

One wonders why CBS spends all that money to produce a TV show. They could probably scrawl "Star Trek" on a glittery hat and just pass it around. People would empty their pockets.
Good question. For that matter, why do studios spend money on actually making movies at all when everyone gets excited by trailers?

Yeah, no.

Naturally, one expects that after spending "all that money" on something, they would plan to actually use it, hence speculation on how they will.

Keep in mind, this so-called walk-on is a fully-fledged actress who's had major roles in other series. She has appeared consistently in the last 3 episodes so far, and her character has already been given a name and line. A writer tweeted her photograph mentioning that she had "joined the family" with the tag #moretocome. But I guess that was just a gag to fool us into emptying our pockets.

#moretocome.

Airiam was instantly intriguing to me, hope more to come indeed..
I watched ep 1 again and spot something similar, a female android bursting out with a computer-voice "impossible" when the klingon vessel decloaked.

I want to see more of these things..

I'm pretty sure that is just a some sort of virtual reality helmet, not an android.

That likely has more to do with the fact the character was originally intended to be a technologically augmented human, which was changed at quite literally the last moment.

The novel Desperate Hours identifies the character as Jira Narwani, a junior tactical officer and calls her headpiece a tactical targeting helmet. There is no information about who or what she is under the helmet.
I think she had the line "Get ready for some serious shit" in the book. Would have to look again, but it was funny.

It is according to Desperate Hours.

I'm also pretty sure someone on the bridge yells to take her to sickbay.
