"Ab Aeterno" Live Commentary

Am I the only one who thought that Priest should go **** himself?

I mean, what kind of **** is that to say to a person who just lost his wife, accidentally killed someone and is about to hang the next day?

Indeed, not a very nice guy, thought the same thing.

Am I the only one to think that the reason Richard asked to live so long was so that he could do penance? The priest said that he could not absolve Richard of his sin because Richard was to be hanged the next day--not enough time to do penance. Since Jacob couldn't absolve him, Richard wanted to keep living so he wouldn't go to hell when he died--and never see Isabella again.

Indeed, and it also strikes me that there are two other characters who are also immortal....Jacob and MiB. Maybe they were both also mortals who sinned like Richard, and they were made immortal in order to do penance, just like him. Maybe this has something to do with MiB's claim that Jacob "stole his body"?

So this story is about Jacob vs. MIB (Good vs. Evil if you will). And how long did it take to get us to that point? We didn't even see Jacob and the MIB until the final episode of the 5th season. So 5 seasons to even get to the point of the story. Seriously guys?
Technically, we MIB was in the pilot episode. And Jacob's role in island event has been talked about since the beginning of the third season. It's not like it just all came out of nowhere.

I expected him to say that he couldn't absolve Richard of his sins because he wasn't an ordained priest. The things he said about not enough time to work the penance before receiving God's grace did not make sense for a priest to say.

The Priest was a dick. Telling him he's going to hell made him more willing to be a slave instead. Generally Priests are supposed to absolve sins from those who seek penance. Then again, generally, Priests aren't supposed to sell their flock into slavery.
