A Website full of people you want to smack.

Oh, and St. Nick, Friends was the worst show on tv not because of the reason you mentioned. It was the worst show on tv because it was the worst show on tv. It was BRUTAL.

References to masturbation and oral sex were cited as the specific reasons by the PTC at the time.

See, because they raved about shows like "Doc" is enough for me to want to smack them.

I mean, is that really what they want all TV to be like? Gag me with a spoon.

I confess, I'm intolerant - of censorship advocates. They can all just fuck miles of off as far as I'm concerned. Despite the fact a baby cannot in fact chew steak, I will still enjoy mine as I see fit.

Yeah, why be tolerant to those that aren't different in the right ways.

Not sure what you mean.

If people don't like the more "real"/"viloent" nature of what's on TV they can simply not watch it. Simple as that. TV shouldn't be made for and centered around families and children. There's no good reason it should be.

There's plenty of shows on during the daytime for children to watch, evening time should be for adults. And shows for adults should be gritty and real.

Hmmm. "Doc" or "House." "Doc" or "House."

Family centirc happy go-lucky doctor played by a country-western one-hit wonder in light-hearted family centric situations or an acerbic ass who's a "modern day holmes" solving medical mysteries. I know which show sounds more interesting to ME.

I don't like shows like "Doc" or stuff that's softened and dumbed down for people who can't handle a little harder drama or something closer to "real life." So? I don't watch them.

THESE people, get all huffy, start their website ranting about these grittier shows and how we need to "OMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" and want more shows to be like the ones they DO enjoy.

You tell me, who's more trying to change the way people think?

People like me, who simply just don't watch shows they don't like or people like them who start websites and campaigns against shows they don't like?

And once a kid hits their teens, enters Junior High they should be able to handle anything on prime-time TV. There's NOTHING said, shown, or done on ANY prime-time TV series that a teenager isn't going to be able to handle, hasn't thought of before, or likely hasn't seen or heard of on TV/in movies before.

The stupid website admonishes Survivor for a ball-slip, Big Brother for failure to bleep a curse during a live show and go all balistic and huffy-stuffy. Not realizing censoring live programing, or catching everything on raw-recorded footage is going to have error in it.

That strip tease on 2.5 Men? Probably a "bit" much for Prime-Time TV, but the show was rated TV-14 and was something any teenager should be able to handle without having their souls crushed into depravity.

These people want to ruin good, edgy, TV and good drama because of TEH CHILDREN!!!!

Fuck the children.

The parents can do to them what they did to me when they watched L.A. Law or Hill Street Blues, "[Trekker], mommy and daddy's shows are on now so go to your room and play, OK?"

OH MY GOD WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!!

Children??? Playing with their toys on their own... IN THEIR ROOMS?!??! BY THEMSELVES?!?? Using their IMAGINATIONS?!?!?!?!

HOLY HELL!!!! The world may end!

And, for what it is worth, I HAD a TV in my room growing up, and a Nintendo, and a computer and a VCR. If I didn't feel like playing I put in a movie I knew I could watch -and my parents were pretty liberal on what I could watch. Plenty to keep me occupied while mom and dad watched their more adult-centric shows.

But you can damn-well be certain by time my balls dropped and I hit friggin' 13 they weren't monitoring or restrcting what I was watching. Why?!

Because I was friggin' thirteen!!!! Sheltering me fromt he horrors of the real world wouldn't do me any service. I mean, that's eigth grade. You're telling me someone a heartbeat away from being in highschool can't handle a very mild strip tease on a 1/2 hour sitcom? Bullshit.

I was already sneaking looks at my Dad's playboys at that age... with his permission!

People are sheltering and coddling their children too much. No wonder so many of them are having sex. They're wondering what the big deal is and they're not getting "relief"/"tension" from seeing Alicia Witt do a pole-dance while in a bikini.

And maybe family viewing hours shouldn't have strippers featured on network tv.
And maybe you should change the channel or turn the TV off instead of counting on the government to parent your children for you - all while treating adults as children right along with them.

Just because we believe they are nuts doesn't mean that they don't have a point with what they are trying to do..
Their point is to force censorship on everyone because they're too lazy to keep an eye on what their children are watching. So yes, they are nuts.

Look, I'm just playing a heavy handed devils advocate here. I love the blood guts and gore as much as anyone here.. I'm just saying that we're no better than they are...
How? How is criticizing them for being censor happy being "no better than they are"? Don't wait for the translation! Answer me now! :klingon:

Just take a stroll around TNZ for the answer to that.. There many examples of people (on both sides, mind you) that show little regard for anyone who doesn't think like they do...

The people who don't want any traditional Christmas (as in Christian) carols sung in public schools. The people who feel it's perfectly acceptible to teach about homosexuality in schools (and those who are against it). The people who think that republicans/democrats are the scourge of the earth.

It's easy to fall back on censorship as the rally cry to be against these sorts of organizations, but in reality, they have just as much right to fight against vulgarity and violence on TV as we do to bitch about them doing so.

I'm not complaining about bitching about these folks, I'm just pointing out the irony that they'd have as much right to want to smack us back...

So? None of that has anything to do with this thread.

No, they don't, because they are fighting for censorship of something they can avoid by simply changing the channel or turning off the TV. See, people should have a choice in what they watch, they shouldn't have someone else's choice forced on them. Don't like TNZ, fine, stay out of it, I've never been in there myself and don't care to ever go in there. Doesn't mean I'm going to advocate getting rid of TNZ though.

I'm not complaining about bitching about these folks, I'm just pointing out the irony that they'd have as much right to want to smack us back...
Again, no they wouldn't. They might want to because they're censor-happy assholes who want to treat everyone like children, but they can just fuck miles of off as far as I'm concerned.
