A TrekBBS Milestone!

Zulu Romeo

World Famous Starship Captain
Admiral
Yes!

I looked at the index this morning and noticed that at some point over the last 2 days or so, we passed 3 million posts on the TrekBBS! :bolian:

So I'm wondering.... who was the lucky poster of the 3 millionth post? And what was the post all about?

I try ;)

Unfortunately it is not simples.

We could use the post index. This post is number 3,699,422, which you can see if you hover your mouse over the quote button.

Obviously the numbers don't tally up with the front page, probably because some posts have been deleted.

I expect the number on the front page doesn't count deleted posts, which gives us two competing definitions of what the 3 millionth post is.

FWIW If you just take the link for a random quote and replace the number with 3000000 you get:

How would you evaluate it?

Imo I would give it a 3/10 compared to the 90s, 80s, 70s and 60s.

Music wise we've had emo, 80s retrogressive indie, the return of legwarmers, metalcore---Trivium, Nu metal, Limp Bizkit et al, "bling" rap music.

Movies have been good but there haven't been any iconic films like in the 80s with Back to the Future or Robocop. Too many superhero flicks and re-makes but that said there have been quality films-Oldboy, Pans Labyrinth, Kill Bill I suppose. There was also the trend of gore/torture horror films, which imo had no artistic value, although Saw was quite good because it had a plot.

Videogames-meh maybe I've grown out of them, I still enjoy playing something fun but Halo 2 just doesn't compare to the fun and quirkiness of Sega Rally or Virtua Cop. Morrowind was ok but a bit boring. Oblivion I gave up on. Games are still quite good, but I dunno, I get the impression that they've become more homogenized or something, everything is like everything else.

Fashion etc pretty bad.

The rise of social networking sites, youtube.

The Simpsons went really lame, Southpark got better and better.

This decade also witnessed flagrant spending, war and at the tailend a major economic collapse.

Overall I prefered the 90s.

^^^ Then again, was that post #3000000 before or after some were deleted?

Plus, that post dated back to May 2009, which was well before we had accumulated 3000000 posts this month.

My guess is that this was the 3000000th post registered by the system, including those deleted and made in closed forums like the BR, and therefore the "real" 3000000th post.

It's my 7th anniversary at the bbs today so all this talk of milestones feels appropriate for me.

That's a lot of server space and bandwidth. I wonder if Premium Membership covers all that?

(Hey, if we call it Premium Membership Service, does that means paying members have PMS?)
