The Doctor said "it must have been just before America." That doesn't necessarily mean he's correct in his assumption. Personally I think the kidnapping took place between Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon. I don't recall Amy seeing Madame Kovarian prior to this, and the events of the series opener support the kidnapping when Amy is doing her X-Files thing. Of course, I could be wrong. Just my thoughts ...

The Doctor being wrong about some of his deductions seems to be an ongoing theme for his Doctor, so i think he's close but wrong. IMO, either she was kidnapped between TIA and DOTM or she was kidnapped in the orphanage. The scene when she notices the Silence on the ceiling, specifically, is when I have in mind. When she opens the door to leave the room, that scene seems cut to make us think that something happened to her. It's immediately after this that Madame Kovarian makes her first appearance as well.

well the start of the series is odd, why is it that the Doctors and the Ponds split after the events of A Christmas Carol, was she replaced before she left the TARDIS or after.

I can't see that being true since Amy picked up the picture of her and Melody probably taken on Demon's Run.

I'm not talking about the scene with her in the room in which the Astronaut found her; I am talking about the one before that scene, where she finds the nest of Silents hanging from the ceiling.

I think the implication is that the Eleventh Doctor has adventures with his companions rather randomly...the ones we the audience follow are with the Ponds, but he goes off on his own frequently and has adventures with others like he did in A Christmas Carol then he returns to the Ponds and picks them up.

there is also the idea that the Ponds made the choice to leave (I can easily understand them taking a cruise (of sorts) for their honeymoon, without the Doctor) after A Christmas Carol, since the Doctor is apparntly trying to get their attention by popping up in history and movies.

Even married to Rory not sure why Amy would want to leave the Doctor & the TARDIS.

Everyone needs a break once in a while.

Yeah well once she sees the Silents she loses time and you tell that by the marks on her.

Wait...a good point was brought up. How come an enemy has just never made a simple effort to shoot the Doctor. I mean I know it would detract from the entertainment value of the show. But at any given point from what I have seen in nuWho the Doctor's only escape is his mouth LoL. He usually starts talking and when he starts talking all his enemies stop? I mean what would stop a Dalek or Sontaran from just...oh let's say they find a weapon not susceptible to a Sonic Screwdriver walk up to him when he is alone and just shoot him. Don't listen to him just shoot him. The only manner in which the Doctor is truly wily is when he talks or when he has a companion around him OR if he has some resources around him (i.e. databanks, computers, controls, etc.) but that does not mean he cannot be shot. Any enemy is only distracted by him if they have ego enough to just keep listening or pretending to care about what he has to say. So come on just find an enemy with no ego, no sharing of their evil plans, no banter back and forth between good guy and bad guy, just shoot the Doctor when he is alone, before he says anything or while he is talking, and when he is not around anything really. It just happens to be that every enemy is stupid enough to think he is helpless and weaponless and unarmed when he has nothing on him.

I am just sick of bad guy banter...real bad guys don't have to tell people they are bad guys.
I might be pissing in the wind here.

I think that was the whole point and something that has been discussed a lot since The Doctors rock and Roll moment in "The Pandorica Opens. Basically, he has been coasting on his reputation for a very long time. It might be a stretch but the reason the bad guys don't simply take a shot at him is because they either don't think it will work or are simply too afraid.

Put it another way, if you were going to fight a god, would you even consider throwing a punch? No, it's just assumed a punch won't take out a god so you either retreat or find a more clever way of destroying said god.

This is very true, especially if said god were a Time Lord whose earlier self might have heard about the assassination attempt. The trick is to keep it quiet; or, failing that, to create an assassin whose future is already the Doctor's past. ;)

Reminds me of this exchange from Austin Powers 2:

Scott: If you've got a time machine, why don't you just go back and kill Austin Powers when he's sitting on the crapper or something?

Dr. Evil:
How about, no, Scott? Okay?

It just wouldn't make good storytelling.

Yeah and the important thing to remember is that especially when it comes to television, there is a certain amount of contrivance. I suppose the trick is to never create a contrivance that comes dangerously close to a cliche or just being absurd.

Well, the Daleks have shot at the Doctor a few times, recently. The one in "Dalek" was going to if his gun hadn't been busted. A bunch tried to burn him down to the ground in "Parting of the Ways", only to be stopped by his trusty force-field. One actually got him in "The Stolen Earth" and another shot at him and missed (missed!) in "Victory of the Daleks". I don't see what was so superior about these new Daleks. At least the old ones could shoot straight.

Maybe the new ones got some of their DNA from Jango Fett:lol:

Only one Dalek missed in that entire list. You don't think any Dalek missed in the old show?

When I (and I assume PorthosShadow) said "new ones," I was referring to the Paradigm Daleks that blew up their sharp-shooting RTD predecessors, not to the continuation Daleks as a whole.
