30. Every place anyone has ever seen on TV is most likely actually here. Seriously, anytime you see Don Draper on a city street, it's Pasadena.

Live in LA. Hate it. It's crowded, smelly, confusing and just plain difficult to live in. Everything is so spread out that even basic tasks like swinging by a hardware store or buying groceries feel five times more complex than before I came here - and don't even get me started on coordinating a social outing or the total lack of trees. I'd move back to the Pacific Northwest in a heartbeat if I could.

I spent 7 years in California while in graduate school. There were some things I liked about living there, but I'm glad to be gone. I miss the Sierras and the ocean. I also miss all the parks and bike lanes (I was in a VERY bike-friendly city). Here are the things I didn't like: the massive numbers of people everywhere you go, too many people just looking out for themselves, the heat, too many stupid laws supposedly to "protect" me but are really just a way to transfer money from my pocket to someone else's, and the way many Californians feel superior to residents of other states. I could probably come up with more, but that mostly covers it.

I admit, this bothers me as well.

I've been out here for a month now (to the day!) and I like it but many of the reasons are specific to me. Mostly I like that I can go outside here without fear of death from my allergies. I like that there are so many outdoor activities and that I can participate in them. The weather helps of course, to facilitate beautiful surroundings and activities outside.

I can't comment on the people as I'm sure it is quite varied and I haven't been here that long. It's very strange to me to live in a place with so many Indians and other Asians, but I like having more ethnic choices in food.

I miss Chicago and I'm sure I'm going to miss Chicago winters. Some of the things I miss are specific to being in a city of that size (like the public transportation). Oh and I love the fruit and veggies (but especially the fruit) out here. So delicious!

I do appreciate how helpful the CA residents of TBBS have been in telling me about the Bay Area, and I look forward to exploring the state. I wouldn't have chosen to move here but out of all the places I could have ended up, I think I'm pretty lucky.

I grew up in San Jose, and now I live in the East Bay. I love California! (As soon as I can afford it, I'm moving back to San Jose.)

So true. If you want a good laugh someday, read the official arguments for and against the ballot propositions aloud in your most "concerned citizen" voice.

I admit, there are times when i don't like living in LA. And then all i have to do is go to the beach for the day, and then i remember why i couldn't possibly live anywhere else.

That picture says more than i ever could about how amazing living in California is.

I have to admit... I have yet to encounter this "superior" attitude from any Californians I know. Granted, we all live here, but the majority of the people I associate with - friends, colleagues, co-workers, actors, producers, writers, etc... most of them came here from someplace else. On top of this, the native Californians I know seem to like it here but also not like it. I can think of two very obvious and specific people I know who were born here but just can't wait to get out of the state.

I myself moved here from Northern Virginia/Washington DC and while that region and city will always, always be "home" for me, I find I quite enjoy living in Los Angeles with all its perks and it's negatives all the same.

In all seriousness, I'm glad that you haven't experienced because it means that it's not that prevalent. I'd say that maybe it's more likely to come up when discussing things with people who live in other states, but you said that many of your friends are from other states so it seems like it would be likely to come up in that context as well? I don't know, I've experienced it more than I have with any other state and I find it annoying but if that's not your experience, it's a good thing.
