2012 NFL Offseason

Makes me all the more upset that the Saints beat the Colts in XLIV.

Aside: Never host a Super Bowl party at your house when your favorite team is one of the contenders.

Could this be the best decision the NFL has ever made?

"No determination has been made yet about this season's game," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press in response to ESPN's report. "We have been in discussions with the union about the future of the Pro Bowl."

Who really cares about the Pro Bowl, anyway?

Could the other sports be far behind? I enjoy watching the NHL Skills Competition far more than the All- Star Game.

Yeah, I'd rather see it go directions like that. Football just isn't something that's any fun when they're visably half-assing it, at best. Just a disgrace. Either just announce it, have them come out at the Superbowl recognizing the honor, or turn it into more of a skills competition game, some accuracy stuff, flag football maybe, I dunno.

Unless they moved it to another channel and didn't tell me, they don't do the NFL skills Competition anymore before the Pro Bowl, and that's sad. I've long thought that the Pro Bowl should JUST be the NFL Skills Competition. Every other sport has one.

Pro Bowl needs to be 7 on 7 flag football, Juggs machines, sprints, lifting....

Things are looking up for Cleveland. With the #4 and #22 picks in the first round, they took Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden. That's an upgrade, I'd say.

I'm super happy with the Patriots' draft so far. They moved up twice () and got an excellent DE in Chandler Jones, and the #2 LB prospect in Dont'a Hightower. They still have two picks left in the second round, but I imagine they'll do some trading down tomorrow because they have no picks at all from rounds 3-7.

The Titans draft a WR in the first round again? Whoah, I think I need to lie down, that's like... crazy.

Good to see them getting some more weapons for Locker when he's ready to take over; Britt's fantastic but he missed so much time last year it'll be good to have another option.

I feel bad for Colt McCoy; the guy's had crap for receivers on a perpetually woebegone franchise and Weeden's too old to use a first-round pick on if you're not ditching the just-as-good McCoy.

I can't believe the Bears drafted a tweener white DE / OLB when they have a two, maybe three-year window to make a SB run and desperately need OL and WR help.

That trade was a gift to the Vikings. By trading with Cleveland and moving down a spot in the draft they got three extra picks and were still able to take Matt Kahil, who probably would have been their pick anyway had they stayed with the #3 pick.

There are no words to properly describe how impressive and exciting the Broncos' picks were tonight.

LOL...great post. :)

Thank you Denver for the 25th pick, as the Ravens were salivating for Hightower as possibly an heir apparent for Ray Lewis. Ravens fans were irate when we traded up and picked him.

This is a top heavy draft, so I'd avoid picks in the later rounds (past 4th round). I'd rather trade for picks next year.

The Patriots still need an explosive kick returner which, ever since the departure of Ellis Hobbs, has been a sore point with our special teams. Enough with the glorified touchbacks from the likes of Woodhead/Welker or the fumbles from the likes of Slater. We were at the bottom of the league with regards to kick/punt returns last year and that killed us in terms of field position, most notably in that fucking superbowl.

Weeden didn't play football from the time he was 18 until he was 25. He has far less miles on him in terms of football hits. People who haven't seen him in person don't realize just how good he is, how accurate he is and that he's got a cannon for an arm. His football IQ is very high. People don't get it if they aren't familiar with him. Cleveland lucked out all over the place by drafting him. With all due respect to Colt McCoy, who most definitely maximized his talent and is by all reports a good man (as is Weeden) he's not "just as good" as Weeden talent wise. I've seen both of them play in person many times. It's not even close. Hell, Staubach was old, too, and he did just fine.

You want to feel bad for someone, feel bad for Sam Bradford. A more talented kid was never in more dire need of a supporting cast, and the idiot Rams just blew it. A defensive tackle? Really? They didn't trade up and secure their picks. Sam Bradford's in an offensive waste land by half. Who needs Kalil to block for him or Justin Blackmon or Kendall Wright to throw the ball to? Not Sam Bradford. God. Poor bastard. :vulcan:

Not being a follower of college ball, I can't really speak to the quality of the picks, but it was nice to finally see Denver do something. It was good to get a pretty high DT, especially after losing Bunkley and still possibly losing Thomas. Getting a relatively high QB isn't too much of a surprise, especially once the Broncos jumped on board the Caleb Hanie Train. We needed a real backup.

It's hard to tell who had the best picks, but it's much easier to tell smart and stupid drafting. Cleveland seems fairly stupid (biting on the Viking's bait for one pick, plus Mitchell Schwartz seemed odd). The real winner for stupidity is probably Miami. I think the Ravens have been fairly intelligent - trading down and still getting exactly who they wanted.

Of course, I'm not commenting on who improved the most since it's always possible a player will be a surprise or a surprise bust.

Easy, tiger.

The Rams took a receiver and a running back in the 2nd round.

Our run defense was so bad last year, we had to do something on the defensive line. The offensive line is good if they stay healthy. Bradford was hardly sacked at all his 1st year.

With so many holes to fill, you can always find room for something else. I think that's why they played the draft the way they did, looking for a lot of new talent.

Besides, it could always be worse for the Rams- they could be the Colts. While I know this was from a parody account, I saw this post on Twitter that seems to sum things up well for them:

OFFICIAL: Colts announce they will be drafting Andrew Luck, leaving only RB, FB, WR, TE, T, G, C, DT, LB, CB, S, K, & P for them to address
