Dish Network: Refer a friend

CaptainJack

Lieutenant Commander
I am wondering if there is a way to use the dish network "refer a friend" program even if you dont have any friends?
I was talking to my brother the other day that a great idea for a website might be a site where people can get together and find other people and help each other out so they can get the 50 dollars per person for referring a friend. Kinda of a Ebay/craigslist type site.
Has anyone heard of this?
Tanks

Dish Network affiliates already do that, and it's easy to become an affiliate. Still, I wouldn't inflict Dish Network on my worst enemy. If you change your service package, they charge a $15 adjustment fee. They charge you for everything, including that "free" moving service ($100 + a $100 Installation fee), and if you cancel early they charge you for it ($265), and if you don't return their equipment inside 10 days, they charge you for that ($350) and usually well before the 10 days are up. So if you cancel before the end of your contract (usually 2 years) , you'll pay about $615 in fees, no matter if you only cancel a day early. By the way, when you send in the equipment, it's not just the box and remote. They also want the dual/tri LNB on the satellite, and the switching box on the side of the house. So you have to climb on your roof, and take your satellite apart to get the dual LNB, and you have to rewire the lines on your house to remove the switching box. Oh, and if you send it via UPS (as a home pickup) because you don't have a local UPS store, you pay for it. Nice, eh?

So are you gonna tell me that Direct TV is any better? Or Comcast? They are all bulljit options considering there really is only 2-3 choices most people can make. I think the term is a monopoly.

DirecTV has service fees as well, as does Comcast and Time Warner, and so on. I'm talking about Dish Network because I had them, and they were the worst service I've ever had. I've been a customer of Time Warner, DirecTV, and Dish Network, and while I've had issues with the other two, no one has treated me like shit and stolen my money like Dish Network. This was very recent, too, like "less than six months ago" recent. So why would I recommend them to friends?

I would refer friends *away* from Dish, or indeed any kind of cable or satellite system.

Plus, if something goes wrong, they'll blame it on you. "Well, we wouldn't have wasted $100 this month if we wouldn't have listened to Mr. Laser Beam!".

As in, if you refer a friend to a cable/satellite service and it goes wrong, you might be the first one they think of for getting them into that situation. It was a general "you", but I used your name as an example.

^ Oh. ok then.

But I would never refer anyone TO dish, or directv, or indeed anything at all. I spread the philosophy of cutting the cord altogether. This includes both cable/satellite and landline phones!

I had Dish, was forced to use Comcrap when I moved (no SE satellites at the time), then went right back to Dish the first chance I got.

Someone, somewhere has had a problem with one of the big 3 at some time. Maybe more than one of them.

They're all run by idiots who don't give a shit about existing customers, only getting new customers, hence all the great start-up deals.

I like the channels Dish has, plus they really do have more HD than Comcrap (by far), including BBCA, which I watch a lot.

Dish doesn't charge you for a package change. I change mine all the time depending on whether something I want to watch on one of the higher packages is on. I kept the sports package during the summer and also have alternated between packages and premium channels depending on what shows were on at the time.

I used a code I found on www.retailmenot.com to cover my installation fee and a month's free worth of programming. I made somebody I'll never meet a happy guy, I guess.

Before I had Dish, I had DirecTV. We were paying $65 for one 7 year old SD receiver with Tivo. I switched to Dish and got TV in five rooms (3 HD) and a DVR with all the channels anybody in the house watches for $51 a month. The best DirecTV could offer me was a discounted $100 HD receiver to stay with them.

I wish I could just survive off Hulu and Netflix, but there's too much stuff I watch and have to record because I work nights that it just wouldn't be feasible for me... including sports. I live in the home market of my favorite baseball team.

They do if you don't have very good credit. We were charged twice for a package change.

We paid $250 for the initial installation fee, and the first month. They refused to accept any promotion codes.

Then you were lucky, or your credit is decent. Either way, they tend to nickle and dime you to death if you don't have very good credit.

Dish never did any kind of credit check on me and I know mine is pretty bad. Sounds like you got hustled by somebody.

I know Dish sets up affiliate programs with other companies and authorized dealers. It just sounds kind of fishy that they would do that to you.

Well, we went directly through Dish. They did a credit check, and that's what we were told. At the time, we could afford it, so we went ahead with it, hoping to only pay about $25 a month on our satellite bill and save some money over time. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Dish must have just been desperate for customers when I signed up. I guess I did get lucky.

If another provider in that area is doing good business, Dish (along with any other provider) will usually do a bit of competing to get a slice of that customer pie.

I agree with starbreaker, I too had bad credit and when I signed up for Dish I NEVER heard the term credit check mentioned. Sounds more like you got screwed by a local installer who wanted to make an extra buck on you.
And Im not talking about recommending Dish to anyone I know. But if you think about it... there are many people in the USA who are gonna be signing up for Dish on their own anyways. It would be nice if I could use their sign up and get this 50 dollars per person for them signing up. So many people going to waste when I could be getting 50 bucks off my bill.

I didn't pay a local installer. Everything went through Dish. Yes, they hire local installers, but I didn't pay him anything. The credit check went through Dish, the costs and fees came directly from Dish.

Then become an affiliate. It's very easy:
http://www.usdish.com/affiliate.html

That's just one of many. They'll pay you for every person you sign up.
