Stargate

Well with Amazon now buying MGM we could see some spark for a new series and all the stargate series and movies.

Hopefully this will end the on/off nature when the series is on Prime. Sometimes it was up and then sometimes it moved to Hulu or Netflix

I was looking and Atlantis and Universe are not on Prime now. Thankfully when I was watching it last year they were, but I'm hoping with this that puts the entire Stargate Franchise on prime pretty much permanently. Also, I'm surprised Comet plays SG-1 but they don't play Atlantis or Universe.

I don't know if they still do, but when they first started showing the Stargates on Comet, they'd rotate every month or so. They were on at the same time, but they'd only show them one at a time. So it would be SG-1 for about a month, then they'd switch to Atlantis for the next month, then Universe, and then it would start over again.

I was not happy when Sg-1 left Netflix a few years ago. I was only part way through. I finally bought Sg-1 and Atlantis on dvd. I ended up watching the finale of both series on the same night and a week later the shows were back on Netflix.

They don't do that anymore. It's basically Stargate SG-1, BSG, Sliders, Quantum Leap, and old sci fi movies now.

Real Stargate fans have the DVDs so what service they are on is irrelevant. :)
I’ve still got mine. All 54 volumes; with all the collectibles that came with them. I only wish I was old enough at the time to enter the competitions.

What collectibles did you get?
Here in Germany we got these wonderful silver boxes, that form a Stargate when all put together and if you sent in prove of purchase you got a Stargate alarm clock where you can open and close the iris.

Sadly those boxes give out some sort of fumes (from the glue?), and the DVDs inside get this weird sticky layer. I haven't played mine in a while, but some did still play back then. I tried to remove it once and destroyed one though.

Nothing that fancy. We got these decoder discs, which, put through a special decoder gave you a symbol that you used to unlock special wallpapers and competitions online. The main one being a trip to the sets in Vancouver which I never entered as I was just a kid and I had it my head that my parents would never take me if I won. Chances are they would have loved to go thinking about it now.
We also got these special ID cards of the characters and if you got them all, you could submit them with a picture of yourself and they would make one for you which I’ve still got. They gave you a nice booklet you could put them in as well.
We might as well had that thing where you could collect tokens to revive a clock etc. but I don’t remember. I remember that being a thing when I collected DS9 and Voyager VHS’s. I got this weird lava projecting light for doing that.

I just wanted to add that the only episode of Stargate I saw was the pilot, and we in Italy got the version with the naked lady.

Today it's still the only part of the plot I remember.

I'll find my own way out.

Yeah the show runners hated that, but the network requested it.
The directors cut they released 10 years later removes the nudity.

Plus obviously any channel that doesn’t allow nudity also cut the scenes in their TV versions.

I think I saw the censored pilot before the full version, and that was...surprising! Without having any context, you wondered whether that was the direction they were hoping for the show to go in...

It was just because it was on Showtime originally and back then, nudity was required to justify having it on a premium cable channel

I'm not sure I found the nudity surprising per se so much as the fact that it showed up in the pilot for this particular show.

It was like watching the ST:TNG episode "Conspiracy" for the first time, in the sense of wondering whether what you'd just seen heralded a tonal shift or was more of an aberration.

Well, I have to say I still remember a "WTF" sensation. I'm watching a quite average sci-fi tv show (and frankly family-friendly until this point) and *BHAM!* a almost full frontal nude. At the time I didn't know that in America it was a cable show (in Italy it has always been broadcast on free to air networks), but still the whole scene seemed incongruous and out of place.

(if anyone is curious here a scene-by-scene comparison of the two pilot's versions - NSFW of course)

I just re-watched all 10 seasons of the show and the two TV movies. The Ark of Truth and Continuum. Has everyone on here seen the two movies, don't want to put out my opinions if you all have not? Also on all 10 seasons, is it safe to put it all out there? Here?

Considering how old they are (even the movies), I'm pretty sure the spoiler policies no longer apply, and that anyone who hasn't seen them is either simply a newer fan or someone who doesn't want to see them.
