Stargate

So, this is an actual series that is coming. That we will be able to watch on a screen. And will have multiple episodes.

<Pinching myself to be certain this is real.>

Yeah there have been about a dozen Star Trek movie scripts that were written but never filmed for one reason or another. And pilot episodes of unmade shows too, like the animated Final Frontier series-that-never-was.

I'll believe it when the trailers appear.

Yeah, there's no guarantee we'll see it until it's been picked up for more than just the pilot.
Since this is a popular franchise there's a very slight chance they could release the pilot as a one off, but that doesn't happen all that often.

It would be really awesome if there was more Stargate. Would you rather see:

  • what characters from other Stargate shows are doing now? Eg what did McKay do after Atlantis?
  • the public finding out about the Stargate program?
  • a totally new show, like how you didn't need to see the other shows to be able to follow Stargate Universe?
  • something which fills in some of the backstory? Eg how did Jolinar and Lantash first meet?

  • YES to meaningful occasional or one off appearances by characters from former series IF it makes sense story wise AND doesn't sideline the new characters to glorified extras
  • YES to the (earth) public finding about Stargate (doesn't have to be the show's starting point, just planned to happen at least)
  • YES to a totally new show
  • YES to something that finishes the SGU big questions (cosmic background noice/signal, what happened to the Destiny crew) - the comic was a good continuation btw. but still open ended.

= basically the ultimate (and near impossible) fan wishlist ;)

It’s a pilot script, Amazon need to green light it.

Well with MGM library of notable properties you have James Bond and you have Stargate. You can maybe add "Legally Blonde" too.

Apparently a reality show where contestants visit iconic Bond locations and go on a globe trotting adventure is in the works

I want it to be it's own thing, but with some appearances from characters from the other shows, and I wouldn't mind seeing the SG program go public.

A new show that has some legacy characters in the cast with the occasional appearance by old favorites that builds on the shows mythology. Rewards old fans while being totally accessible to new viewers.

That would be amazing. I'd be happy with any of these though.

https://www.wealthypersons.com/amanda-tapping-net-worth-2020-2021/

speaking of stargate, how can Amanda tapping's net worth be only $5M? In Star Trek, Patrick Stewart gets several hundred thousand PER episode. W/ all the Stargate episodes she've done, her net worth should be several hundred million

I have no idea how accurate that is, or whether her net worth really comes down to her not getting paid a lot rather than some other reason or if her contract maybe really did suck.

But... Stargate is not as successful as Star Trek. It never has been. And Amanda Tapping was a secondary actor on the show for the vast majority of her time in the franchise. Patrick Stewart was the star of his series from day one, through seven full seasons of TNG, four feature films and now three seasons of Star Trek Picard. Plus he had a massively successful career outside of Star Trek, which both vastly raises his net worth and *also* raises the amount of money he can ask from a studio in contract negotiations. Off the top of my head, I can't recall ever seeing Amanda Tapping in anything other than Stargate and that super crappy Syfy original series she starred in.

She was in several episodes of Supernatural and one of X-Files, an independent movie set in an elevator...

The Supernatural episodes I've seen, now that you mention it.

But, yeah, some guest spots and little known independent movies, even combined with a reasonably high profile role in one reasonably high profile franchise, don't drive up an actor's public profile (and their salary expectations) as much as being the most recognizable face of two different major franchises while still also doing tons of guests spots and some lesser known movies and also being one of the more famous voiceover actors around.
