October 15 Official release date

It's still exciting news, regardless. With all due respect to Lower Decks, as much as I like it, to me it's just something to pass the time before Discovery Season 3 hits. I've been waiting for this for a year-and-a-half. Picard and Lower Decks have both helped with the wait, but it's not the same thing.

Were you less excited about Picard than you are for Disco S3? It was the opposite for me XD
Let me put it like this: for Picard my excitement level was a 10. For Discovery S3, it's an 11.

The two are pretty close for me, but DSC juuuuuuust edges it out.

I'll put it another way: immediately before Picard started, I felt the same way I did before I went to my high school reunion a few years ago, wondering about what people I haven't seen in 20 years are like now and what they've been up to. With Discovery, it's more like meeting up with people I know now in my adult life, who I still keep in contact with, but haven't seen in the flesh in a year-and-a-half.

Hell, thanks to Covid-19, it's been six months since I've seen most of my friends IRL in the flesh. So it's making the comparison even more apt.

I only watched the first episode of Lower Decks. I do need to catch up. Adult animated comedy has just never been my thing at all. This is the first time I've ever... not... watched anything Trek-related. More power to the fans -- there's something for almost everyone these days. :)

I wasn't excited at all for LD, but I've found it to be a fun and entertaining diversion.

I'm pretty excited for S3 of DSC, though. It's been a long wait, and with all the setting changes...it's almost like waiting for a whole new series.

Huh. Really? Whyfore? That's the last thing I'd want from the show.

I mean, if you loved the show as is, why would you want to change the whole premise?

More Spock and Michael
More Tilly and her mom
More Saru and his people
More Michael and Tyler
More Mudd

It seems like a good story but I don't want the X-men set perpetually in the Days of Future Past and this feels like that.

I don't want to watch more of a season of them in "Andromeda" Fallen Federation universe. I want to see them dealing with stuff in the time of TOS or if we have to the Picard Era. I was enjoying the worldbuilding DISCO was doing with the past.

Thankfully, Section 31's existence means they have to bring them back sometime. There's no way it's set in the Days of Future Past Trekverse.

I'm excited for a season in this but I don't want DISCO to be all about the far future when the present-ish future was so cool.

Interesting. I appreciate the insight into your perspective but I really hope this doesn't come to pass. The TOS era can continue via Strange New Worlds. Characters like Mudd and Tyler can return through there. Spock and Michael said their final farewell in "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2." I'd not be a fan of that somehow changing. Furthermore, the Discovery was classified as done and dusted in that same episode. This was a neat trick (well, a trick of varying degrees of quality depending on whom you ask) that seemed expressly designed for the show to say goodbye to an era that will now be explored via another show.

I did love the show as-is. I'm also excited about the change in the premise. :)

Maybe they go with the different time periods idea that was running around in the early days. Like Sliders in space.

That could be pretty nifty!

Burnham, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, the USS Discovery, and the Spore Drive. That seems to me to be what's the primary core of the series. They can go anywhere. Any galaxy, any time, any dimension. Where they'll discover.

So it's entirely possible that Season 3's setting won't last passed S3. But I don't think they'll go back to the S1-S2 setting. Going back undercuts "Such Sweet Sorrow". I see a divide where it carried more weight with people -- such as myself -- who don't think they're going back (may or may not apply to Georgiou). I think the world-building they did in the first two seasons of DSC will continue in SNW.

The fact that they're doing SNW takes the sting out of DSC leaving the 23rd Century. At least for me. And I'm glad that since DSC went to another time period, at least it was a time period we've never seen before.

That would be a shame as I feel a huge chunk of DISCOVERY's appeal is the relationships they already have. DISCO Sarek is one of my favorite characters for his relationship with Michael.

I'll still watch it but be one of those fans who asks, "When are you going back?" every episode. :)

I don't disagree with this, but they've done a LOT to cover up what happened to Discovery, her crew and the spore drive. So they've kinda painted themselves into a corner.

As far as Frain, he's my favorite version of Sarek now and we should be able to see Sarek and Amanda in SNW whether they interact with Spock or not. Mudd too hopefully.

Discovery is a different type of show now. Hopefully the writing will be good enough so it won't matter where or when they are.

Of course if season 3 really tanks, they might decide to reverse things.

Hopefully season three will be a beachhead in the 32nd century for all new adventures and spinoffs, like TNG was for the 24th. Though if the stories don’t become markedly more interesting, it won’t make a difference where they set the show to me.

More Spock and Michael

Cringeworthy. No thanks. “Such Sweet Sorrow II” was painful to watch.

More Tilly and her mom

No thanks. Tilly can stand on her own.

More Saru and his people

Shouldn’t really be affected by the switch.

More Michael and Tyler

No thanks. That was like watching two wet pieces of cardboard slapping together. There was simply no chemistry.

More Mudd

Always Strange New Worlds.

Well if you didn't like DISCOVERY before, that's a shame. I did and wanted more of it. I don't like the idea of throwing out the entire premise for something in the far future. Discovery was a loving homage to the Original Series with modern special effects and analysis.

I was eager for STRANGE NEW WORLDS but didn't want it to murder the show I already liked and wear its face.
