New Enterprise May Have Nacelles That...

I heard we get to see a men's bathroom on the Enterprise. In one scene Spock will go into the bathroom and tap his foot into the next stall. He'll also reach over to run his hand underneath the stall. When caught he'll claim to have been reaching for a piece of toliet paper on the floor. He'll also talk about his wide stance. Kirk will reprimand him and then they'll rip each others uniforms off and have wild monkey sex. Trek XI will be rated NCC 1701.

Obviously no one outside the film's production has seen the new Enterprise, I'm just stating my view on drastically changing the NCC-1701.

From what we're hearing, the changes are more subtle than drastic. I mean, come on, it's the Enterprise. It's probably the most iconic starship in television history. They wouldn't mess with it too much. Probably they'll try to respect its basic shape and aesthetic and just add some more detail and texture for the big screen.

Aww. I was hoping they would use Pike's Enterprise with 60% of its hull plating removed, exposing futuristic workings and implying a not-quite-done-yet refit. But that sounds cool too. :)

If they keep the large bridge doom, it should lower itself half way into the ship during battle mood. Hey, our two new writers did it with the Transformers.

Enterprise using spinning nacelles to fly and hover like a helicopter sounds cool.

Similar to an Osprey.
Which, by the way, I have a small part in the ongoing development effort of. I'm not really very confident of the design... but it's a pet project of certain powerful Senators, so it seems to be immune to cancellation...

I've been able to inspect one on the ground, but honestly, I have no desire ever to be in one when it's in operation. ;)

I work at ILM, and I say this is BS.

Actually, the people that work at ILM work for me.

My name's George ;)

It seems my friend has been vindicated.

I will accept apologies.

Firstly, it's not that mature to crow over 'i told you so'
Secondly, your 'i told you so' is premature - that article mentions nacelles once and hardly in a context which describes that they will be changed or what changes we should expect - only that the author had hoped the silhouette, including the nacelles, would remain unchanged, but that he now expects a significant alteration to the basic hull shape.
Your friend has yet to prove his worth as a spoiler source if the best he can manage is to predict the word 'nacelles'.

If I worked at ILM and had a trekkie friend, there's no way I wouldn't mess with his head. ("Yeah, man, the uniforms have shoulder pads!" "The ship...it's actually 1347.5 feet long!")

"I'm going out to buy some pink paint, you know, it might be for that big movie I'm working on..."
"You mean...!?"
"No, I've said too much!"

Rotating Nacelles.Which would alter the basic outline of the ship.

Could you point to the word 'rotating' (or similar) in the report for me please? If the report does in fact discuss rotating nacelles, or even that a significant change is planned for the nacelles, then you are correct: you told us so. If not, and the article merely says that the E has been 'changed', a very general point we had already guessed, sorry, your proof hasn't shown up yet.

If we can't have nacelles with spinning rims then why even bother?

Keep 'em spinning, keep 'em spinning'... now go buy yourself something shiny.

/with apologies to Chris Rock

Maybe "rotating" is a misconstruction of the rotating, blinking lights in the domes on the front of the nacelles? As in, someone said the nacelles had rotating lights, which when told to a friend of a friend of a friend, became rotating nacelles?

Maybe?

My friend from ILM stated that Kirk's quarters will have "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones blasting. Just because he's the captain.
