Zachary Quinto

My wife made gagging noises, but I don't think Quinto should have his tired, overwrought Sylar role held against him. If he can act, he can do the job.

Love the guy. Love the news. :D Knew that people would start in on the "Spock isn't a serial killer" argument.

Actors are paid to act. As long as they are good, and this guy is good, they can play vastly different characters equally well.

I just wish I'd seen him in more roles than the one he's best known for. I don't quite share the same confidence that Temis has in his ability to play vastly different characters equally well.

Quinto has already played several different characters as Sylar -- the original, more diffident Gabriel Gray, the sinister killer who renamed himself Sylar, and the guy he pretended to be when he met Mohinder. I think he's demonstrated his range fairly well.

And he does kind of look the part, if nothing else. There is something of a resemblance.

Never heard of him...good luck stepping into some very big shoes Zac - hope you pull it off

in terms of fame factor, looks like a good choice. Fair resemblance, relatively unknown to many people (like myself) but known to some avid TV viewers...

I love how people can judge an actor based on one or two roles. The point of being an actor is to be able to perform in a variety of styles and various characters. I can say that he's got the physical look that suits Spock more than Adrian Brody or Jeffrey Quinn (sorry, but his head is like a lightbulb).

Considering the casting of Quinto, would you guys think that Matt Damon is out of the running as Kirk? I mean, Damon is Shatners age when Bill was doing the series. Quinto is younger, about 30 I think.

He was pretty good on 24 too.

When I heard he was cast as Sylar, I went and re-watched his role in 24, and I didn't think he was all that hot. I was kinda worried for Heroes, figuring Sylar was a linchpin character that needed a very good actor. But he's apparently gotten better at acting or maybe the role of Sylar clicks with him better, because I have no problems with how he's played the role. He's managed to compensate for the deficiencies of the writers (the character logic of Sylar can be a tad um sketchy and for-the-convenience-of-the-plot-ish), which is always a good sign in an actor - going above & beyond. Not that I want the Trek writers to slack off!!!

Shouldn't this be in the Future of Trek board? Or else -- there's a whole lot else I'd like to speak with TOSers here about the upcoming film.

His role on 24 and his role on Heroes (from what I understand) are as different as night and day.

The occasional thread with regards to the upcoming film is generally acceptable here. I'm sure most of the regulars in this forum have been keeping an eye on the threads over in Future of Trek. What I'd hate is to see such a proliferation of Trek XI threads that we end up moving them all to FoT. Moderation in all things is a good philosophy.

"Moderation in all things." I get it! 'Coz, like, you're a moderator and... and...

Where'd I put my bong?

Seriously: the guy kinda looks the part. I've never seen him act, though, so I can only reserve judgement.

Yes, Damon has said he's out of the running. In fact, he said it here. On video. And he talked to JJ Abrams and they're definitely going with younger actors. Remember when Matt Damon was the hot young thing (which personally I never got)?
