Z Nation - Season 4 is upon us

Hopefully I can see this today. Last week it took forever to appear on On Demand.

Well, finally, things are starting to happen (with only two episodes left in the season). Black Rainbow is the ultimate bio-weapon and Zona has the launch codes-- to presumably launch giant flying manta rays which will spew the deadly droppings all over the Earth in a manner probably best not thought about.

The sequences at Northern Lights were great, although I really hope that the persistent Zombie stalker is really done this time. But I really loved seeing our two geeky friends researching the microfilm and 5 1/4 floppy disks at their neglected military outpost the old-fashioned way. Zona couldn't have foreseen that, and can't deal with it remotely, unless they can ICBM the place.

Finding Teller's kid frozen in high-tech amber was really weird, as was the necessity of pulling the plug on him. As a story element, he couldn't have been there just for the sake of giving Warren a tough decision to make (or a tough decision that poor Sarge was unable to implement). The fact that Murphy wanted him to be with his mother couldn't have been purely sentimental either. I have a feeling that the remnants of the failed cure in his mother's body will find their way into the kid's tube and resurrect him to play some part in the finale.

I'm looking forward to see what's left of the government in Washington. Will the President be a Zombie, protected by a faithful cadre of surviving Secret Service agents? Probably. :rommie:

I don't remember seeing this mentioned in the preview but it looks like this Friday is the two-part season finale.

That would make sense. Ah, well, I hope our missing characters appear before the end, at least briefly.

So Warren was Zona’s plan to launch Black Rainbow. I was becoming suspicious but admittedly it didn’t occur to me until they got the president’s thumb.

Not bad but the conspicuous absence of some of the cast still looms. At the very least it would’ve been nice to see Simon and Kaya. Z Nation cast and crew are active on Twitter but are strangely mum on the issue. For example, Anastasia Baranova (Addy) will retweet Z Nation stuff, even a tweet about her being missed, but with no comment or explanation.

So Murphy is red now? :) At this point, he seemed to take it in stride.

Also, according to the producer’s Twitter Z Nation has been renewed for another season but the decision was only made yesterday.

^^ Well, I'm very happy and surprised to hear about the renewal. I'm sorry we didn't get to see our missing characters. Given the strange silence and the meandering plotline, I wonder if there were behind-the-scenes issues that we'll only learn about later.

Sciffy put up episode 13 on On Demand, but not episode 12, so I haven't seen them yet. Maybe today....

Doc makes a comment in one of these episodes about nudging the VCR to get it to work and says that’s what happens with budget cuts which may be a cheeky aside to what’s happened with the show.

When I was going through the tweets there was an interesting comment from the producer congratulating Happy for getting strong ratings but he worried that it might not bode well for Z Nation so it sounds like it may have been dicey. He says SYFY likes the show but it is a business. The Twitter scene is really active for such a small show and everyone who has been involved seem to have had a good experience. Even people not on the show anymore like the actresses who played Merch and Cassandra still chime in.

I didn't really like the finale...seemed more like regular episodes...with no appearance of our missing threads. Hope they at least get to do that

My friend Hope tracks the ratings of a bunch of shows and I was shocked that it was renewed, given how it compares to other shows that were cancelled. Sciffy must get a higher percentage of the profits or something. Or maybe it does well overseas.

After seeing the last two episodes of the season, I'm more convinced than ever that there as some kind of chaos going on behind the scenes. I'm thinking they had the season all written, or at least planned, and Sciffy forced some changes on them. Maybe made them cut the cast and other frills.

Anyway, it's a good thing that the show was renewed, because we ended on quite a cliffhanger-- although I suppose it would have served as a real bummer of a finale with a little editing.

But, anyway, Warren and the gang found the acting president, who had access to a demo tape for Black Rainbow (which was really over the top, even by Z Nation standards) and it turned out she was really working for Zona, so Sarge killed her ("We can get a new president"). Then they found the real president, and brought him to Washington-- why they couldn't just take his thumbs was never adequately explained. So once they change the launch codes and Warren loads the canisters into the drone (apparently the giant flying manta ray was just a metaphor), we learn that Warren has been brainwashed into launching Black Rainbow, not stopping it. Which doesn't really make a lick of sense, since Ugly Guy already had the original launch codes and was able to launch the drone with the flesh-eating virus aboard. More evidence of massive re-writing.

So, after two final hours of Z Nation weirdness, what did we end up with? Warren is in a crash dive, Murphy is all red after being exposed to whatever was in the alternate canister, Doc is being fatalistically doc, Sarge has jumped 10k's bones, and Black Rainbow is blooming. Bring on Season Five.

Oh, and not only did Addy, Red, and Sun Mei never return, but Citizen Z and Kaya made no appearance in the last two episodes. Somebody should make a list of loose ends. It would be long.

Where is Z-Nation filmed? New Merica seems like a great excuse to film in Canada, in the cheapest place possible.

Can someone refresh my memory as to what Addy , Red and/or Mei were up to?

And I forget -- was it 10K who accidentally shot her eye?

I still would like Murphy to meet up with Addy and say a sincere thank you for taking care of his girl...who I still think might resurrect...it was left vague enough for them to film the Z's coming to the fire to go rescue her.

I still would like Kaya and ZJ to meet the crew...hope they at least have an end game. Definitely feel like there were some filler episodes/unused scripts (like bootleg Insane Clown Posse??? or Bootleg Sweeney Todd??)

Now,if the Zona guy was NOT sending off the Black Rainbow virus, what WAS he sending up?

^^ Yes, the eye injury happened during the two-year time jump. I don't remember now if we got the story of how it happened.

Apparently it is filmed in Spokane, Washington.

Addy and Lucy got split up during the shootout at the cabin, and Addy said they would meet up in NewMerica-- so the last we saw Addy, she was heading for NewMerica. Sun Mei and Red disappeared from the refugee camp, just after everybody disappeared from the caravan. It's one of those unresolved plot threads that piled up throughout the season.
