Yah, more convicts!!!

During the week my sister and I were able to find the documents to prove that three more of my ancestors arrived in Australia as convicts. This brings the total of my convict ancestors to 10.

These last three were

An Irish woman from County Sligo, Sarah Queenan (or Quinnan) who was convicted in Scotland of sheepstealing. She was a 31 married woman and mother of two. She was allowed to bring one child with her but that child died not long after arrival. 7 year sentence.

A man. John Wood, who was convicted of armed highway robbery. He was originally sentenced to death. He arrived on the Third Fleet. We knew that either the Second Fleet John Wood or the this man was our ancestor.

A woman, Ann Matthews, who was convicted of stealing several items including silver spoons and a table cloth. 7 year sentence.

I am proud to be descended from the scum of British society :) Many Australians consider finding convicts in their family tree to be better than finding royalty.

These convicts are all on my Dad's side. My Mum's ancestors were all free settlers.

What Uluru (formerly Ayres Rock)?

Nope, never had the pleasure.

I have never been to the Northern Territory.

I have however seen Wave Rock in Western Australia.

You got any, like, 1920x1200 or larger pictures of that? That's awesome.

I found some larger photos of it via google pictures.

I hvaen't got any photos that I took myself. I visited it years and years ago when all I had was a cheap film camera and none of the photos I took weren't that good.

I am surprised that Wave Rock isn't as famous as Uluru.
