I think this final set back football's cause in North America by several years. It was everything Americans complain about: diving, boring, hack and slash buffoonery. That being said, since all World Cups are now decided by who can dive better, the Netherlands strategy of actually hitting the other team before the other team can fall down pretending to be hit seems like a reasonable policy.

They haven't always been like that. The tendency has been there for about a decade. Another particularly bad example was against Portugal in WC 2006. But at least it wasn't a finale.Definitely not. They tend to play like that whenever things don't go their way.
For the record; many Dutch are extremely embarrassed (me included), want to crawl under a stone and disagree with the team on any mistakes of the ref. Read the reactions:
