Wooden bats vs Aluminum bats

I like to go to the batting cages every once in awhile to relax and blow off some steam. I normally use a wooden bat when I hit. Last night while I was in the cage, I swung at a ball and got the nastiest shock/vibration in my hands....it hurt like hell! Then a few pitches later the same thing happened...this vibration was so powerful, I couldn't even hold the bat anymore. So my question is, if were using an aluminum bat, would I still get the nasty shock in my hands? And should I be holding the bat tighter or looser?

Side note, I saw an advertisment for the College World Series last year that had the tag line "The College World Series...more ping, less bling!" I thought that was cool...

You'd still feel the same shock, it just wouldn't be nearly as bad.

They same physics apply, it's just the effect is amplified by the "hard spot" in the wooden bat.

Blood doesn't soak into aluminum bats.

I'm sure it would be easier to beat someone to death with an aluminum bat than a wooden one, and you'd be less likely to break it half way through.

That would, however, deny one the joy of driving the broken end though one's enemy.

K'pla!

:klingon:

^ Is that Bionic Commando? Cool!

I saw a "bat" made of glass-filled nylon once. I didn't care for the shape (why emulate the baseball shape directly if it ain't for that? Profile reasons?) but was impressed by the damage it could dish out without breaking. Had a nice solid weight.

Note: If you feel a vibration like that every time you swing the bat, the bat is probably broken, you might want to check that out. Just because the bat doesn't split into more than one piece does not mean that it is not broken.

Err... It's more likely there's something wrong with his swing mechanics.

+1, me thinks his swing is flying open. Throw the knob at the ball(quick hands).

My swing is probably pretty bad....I just feel good when I can actually put the barrel of the bat on the ball.

I think it happens on an inside pitch. Most of the time I can get the sweet spot close to the ball, but sometimes and mostly on inside pitches I get that shock. I just got my tax return so I am going to buy an aluminum bat tonight.

I really like the drive the broken end through your enemy thing though, for some reason thinking of doing that really puts a smile on my face. I'll still keep the wooden bat (which I named Cliff), for such an occasion. But I'll try out the aluminum one out at the cages....
