Even though Spock and McCoy developed a remedy to the Scalosian hyperspeed, they wait until after they leave the Enterprise before Spock gives it to Kirk to cure him, and eventually himself after he repairs the ship. So why didn't they offer the cure to the Scalosians themselves? Kirk worried they would be a threat to any other ships that would approach the planet. But if they were cured, they would have been no threat at all if they were returned to normal speed. Am I missing something? Would this have been some sort of violation of the Prime Directive? The Scalosians seemed to be a pretty advanced race even though they had no starship travel. It seemed uncharacteristic that Kirk would allow a civilization to die out like that. What are your opinions of this episode?
