Doctor Who could have been a Sister Act years ago, if Whoopi Goldberg had her way.

The actress, 63, begged BBC bosses to give her the role before Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to be cast as the Doctor.

Whoopi, who was announced yesterday as a presenter at next month’s Oscars, had starred in a string of hit Hollywood movies including Ghost, the Sister Act films and Star Trek when she contacted the Beeb.

The sci-fi buff, who first spoke of her love for the show in 2017, tells former Doctor David Tennant’s podcast about her passion for the genre.

The series scripts may or may not be the same had she been cast. Maybe she'd do the Tennantesque comedic lines differently. Nor do I want to imagine her as a Guinan-like role. But she clearly had enthusiasm, it would be fun to know how she would have portrayed the Doctor.

Somehow I thought we already knew about this so I didn't post about it.

The bigger takeaway for me was Tennant asking her about the Picard series. She said they haven't approached her but she's clearly interested. He said she should go to them like she did the first time around. Fingers crossed.

So they would have put the breaks on The Doctor and Rose, and put the peddle down on the Doctor and Jack?

What idiot said no to her?
She wouldn't be the type of Doctor to be running around and the filming schedule might not suit her but damn would I love to see her as the Doctor.

An alien who changes its body whenever it dies, so the show can run forever? Like thar’d ever work.

Probably the same sort who after Whitaker was cast put out on Twitter that 'Doctor Who is ruined forever and dead to me.'
Time looped quotes...

Groundhogs day again..
A female Doctor Who? What a silly notion.
Heard it before. Broken record or time loop?? Hmmm..funny how that seems so silly now.
:brickwall:

I’d actually love to see her on the show. It’s a shame we can never have the Doctor meet Guinan.
