The actress, 63, begged BBC bosses to give her the role before Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to be cast as the Doctor.
Whoopi, who was announced yesterday as a presenter at next month’s Oscars, had starred in a string of hit Hollywood movies including Ghost, the Sister Act films and Star Trek when she contacted the Beeb.
The sci-fi buff, who first spoke of her love for the show in 2017, tells former Doctor David Tennant’s podcast about her passion for the genre.
