Who would you like to see cast as 'Number One' in Discovery?

Just watched Mockingjay Part 2 on Netflix - How about Michelle Forbes as the Captain?

Although I mentioned Beharie earlier in the thread, the suggestion someone made of Hetienne Park would also be great.

I'm not sure I could watch Michelle Forbes without seeing either Ro Laren from TNG or Helena Cain from BSG.

I know. I have the same problem with Jeffrey Combs. I can only see him as Harriman Gray from Babylon 5. And Brunt from DS9. And Weyoun from DS9. And Tiron from DS9. And Kevin Mulkahey from DS9. And Penk from VOY. And Krem from ENT. And of course as Shran from ENT. I'm not sure I could watch him as anyone else though. ;)

She doesn't look a day over 51!

Besides, isn't 58 year old Angela Bassett Brian Fuller's ideal choice for captain?
She'd pass for younger.

Are you talking captain or first officer? Because I thought we were talking about casting a first officer. 52 is a little old for first officer, unless she is on the Riker career plan.
Geneviève Bujold was 52 years old when she was cast to play Captain Elizabeth Janeway. She would have been 53 by the time Voyager would have started to air.
And Kate Mulgrew was 40 when she got the role.

Incidentally, William Shatner was 34, Patrick Stewart was 47, Avery Brooks was 45, and Scott Bakula was 50 when they were all cast as captain. Like I said, 52 is kind of old for a first officer, even if they look young for 52.

I'm thinking a first officer should be maybe 40, max.

In both cases it says "captain".

Considering that is the name of this thread, you'll pardon my confusion :)

But yeah, those ages would be more in line with a captain's age, if they have been captain for a while. But for Shohreh Aghdashloo who has already been an admiral in STB, it's a demotion!

Why would a first officer automatically be younger than a captain?

Diana Rigg.

But serioulsy: You name the age of Mulgrew etc. but no 1 is supposed to be younger, isn't she? Or is No 1 the first officer? Then it that age range might be fine. (Sorry, that lacks a bit content and is also in the post above but I wanted to make the Diana Rigg joke).

T'pol was older than Archer, both Janeway's firsts looked older than her, Spock was a couple of years older than Kirk.

Picard is the only one I'm sure was older than his first officer.

How old was Kira in Earth years?

Scott Jaeck who played Cavit was only six months younger and Beltran almost two years older than Mulgrew - but with Chakotay he had been Captain of his own ship before taking the XO position out of necessity rather than any career progression.

My point was, not every first officer is destined for the captain's chair, there's not an upper age limit to any rank or position. It's not that uncommon for someone to be older than their superior officer.

I don't know. I doubt they'd have a First Officer as lead of the show if she was never going to grow out of being the First Officer, especially when Fuller said "she'll have many different ranks throughout the show".
