Who here does not celebrate their birthday?

Just wondering how many people don't celebrate their birthday?

I have never liked parties 🎉

The last time I celebrated was my 18th and we only had a small party with immediate family.

So yeah just wondering if anyone else feels a similar way.

I don't celebrate mainly because I don't have, and haven't had for a long time, anyone with whom to celebrate and celebrating by yourself seems a little pointless. On the couple of occasions I've gone to some trouble to organise something, they've turned into the sort of disaster that doesn't even make a funny story.

Having said that, I was, accidentally, at someone else's house over my 60th birthday. There were special meals, a cake with candles, presents and a specially arranged outing. It was very touching and very enjoyable.

I usually don't.

Mostly I don't like the social hassle that comes with birthdays, and also because I'm not sure why my existence would be cause for celebration. If that sounds like I'm kinda depressed, I'm not. I'm just a bit detached from the almost automatic assumption you should do so.

Same. Not depressed but I just don't feel the need to do things for one day out of the year just for myself. I do other things like Christmas and stuff but that's about it really. If other people make a party for me I will go but that's only happened a couple of times and it was I guess fun but I felt forced into going.

The last time I had a birthday party - well, the last time someone organized a party for my birthday is a better way of putting it, because I never threw my own birthday parties - was thirteen years ago.

At the time I worked until midnight, with a long way home, then I needed to have dinner, so even though I had my birthday off, I didn't get into bed until 4 a.m. and naturally, I wanted to sleep in on what was not just my birthday, but my first day off in a week.
And I wanted to treat myself, get the food I want, and relax. So, after sleeping until noon, I went grocery shopping, get a pint of Ben & Jerry for "breakfast" and the items I needed for the dinner I wanted, so it was like 2 p.m. when I actually had my ice cream breakfast.

But my family had organized a "get-together" for me in the afternoon at my brother's family home. We hadn't talked about when exactly, just the afternoon, so I figured I'd ride my bike over there at about 4 p.m.
But then my brother called at a quarter past three to ask where I was, they were all gathered and waiting. So, I rode my bike over, and all my brothers, my mom, my sister-in-law and my nephews were there making a fuss over me. Then there was cake, which I normally like, but I was still full from that ice cream, so I wasn't all over it. And, of course, I was still kind of tired from working all week, and to boot, their gift was a concert ticket that I did. Not. Want. I appreciated the thought, I understood why they thought I'd like the band, but, well, I didn't.

So, I got there late, only ate a minimum amount of cake, wasn't very talkative, and I didn't like the gift. The mood was pretty bad all around.

Ultimately, my brothers confronted me, and I told them that I didn't want any of this, that while I loved all of them, I didn't want to spend my birthday with obligations to others.

So then we agreed they wouldn't organize any more birthday parties for me.

I still celebrate my own way, by taking the day off work, sleeping in, having Ben & Jerry's for breakfast, relaxing watching movies and TV, and having a special dinner. Some years my mom took me out for dinner, which was more to my liking than a party with a lot of people.

I stopped some time around my 14th or 15th birthday. Just not my thing.

I usually end up working on my birthday. It’s just another day to me, but my wife always tries to make a big deal out of it. She cares much more than I do.

If my birthday falls on a Wednesday or Saturday, I'll have dinner with my dad (because that's when we usually eat together), but apart from that, nothing.

Gotta ask, which band?

My ex became a Jehovah's Witness, so no birthdays allowed! The kid who's in still doesn't but does acknowledge the day. The kid who's out kinda does, but he's very subdued, and tries to play up their kids' birthdays instead, so they don't miss out.

As for me, I have no one to celebrate with. Used to love them when I was a kid. Sometimes I buy myself a book. I like to acknowledge another loop around the sun.

Not really. Don’t like the attention and hate parties. May have a drink with friends sometimes.
My last birthday wasn’t great as I was recovering from surgery from 2 days before

There aren't too many things that I celebrate in general, and my birthday is definitely among them. That being said, I may occasionally treat myself and splurge (a little) on a meal I wouldn't normally get but that's about it. I do have friends and some extended family members, but because I don't make any deal of my birthday, they're often not aware of it when it comes, which is fine by me. I'd rather just chill at home and relax than go to a party where I'm the center of attention. That's not my thing.

You can get this knockoff Lego kit Johnny 5 on amazon.
The real thing that's wild is that there were literally toys of Johnny 5 IN Short Circuit 2. And no one thought to do it for real!!

Have you got that model and is it any good?

Yeah I watched both movies and the first one is one of those very few films that if it is on TV I will stop and just watch it ... I noticed that in the second movie, they literally had made tons of them as props but had zero interest in selling them.

Most of the elders in my family have sadly passed away, so while I still enjoy celebrating my birthday, it hasn't been done since 2017. My younger sister still sends me Amazon gift cards every year though, and sometimes folks from my church will give me cupcakes or something. I'm always grateful, even if it's just someone wishing me "Happy Birthday".

I don't celebrate my birthday. I usually even make sure I'm working so that I don't think too much about it. There's no one to celebrate it with (no family, no RL friends), so why would I bother. Besides, it only depresses me anyway to realize that I'm getting old. ;)
