What's your favorite moment when Kirk destroyed a computer?

tranya

Commander
Red Shirt
There are, what, 1701 different instances of this in TOS -- what's your favorite one, and why?

Vaal.

Destroyed paradise and taught the natives to screw. How cool is that?

Nomad, followed by the M5 and then Landru.

Those three are my favorite, but in this order: Landru, Nomad, and M5. I'll add how he helps do in Norman, with the help of Harry Mudd, too! And while he didn't destroy Ruk, I like how he turned him against Korby, leading to his destruction! (There's a reason I have Ruk as my avatar -- he should've had his own show!) -- RR

For "Kirk destroys computer by talking it into having nervous breakdown", I'd go with Nomad and M5 both.

I think another instance which deserves mention is when he destroys the war computers on Eminiar VII by more direct means, including the speech he gives afterward to Anan 7 & Co. about how they're now faced with the real thing:
ANAN: You realise what you have done?
KIRK: Yes, I do. I've given you back the horrors of war. The Vendikans now assume that you've broken your agreement and that you're preparing to wage real war with real weapons. They'll want do the same. Only the next attack they launch will do a lot more than count up numbers in a computer. They'll destroy cities, devastate your planet. You of course will want to retaliate. If I were you, I'd start making bombs. Yes, Councilman, you have a real war on your hands. You can either wage it with real weapons, or you might consider an alternative. Put an end to it. Make peace.
I always liked that one. :)

I'm kinda surprised no one's said Rayna Kapec.

Destroyed her with his insatiable masculinity, of course.

The I Mudd androids...how much more fun can you have with illogic? "I am not programmed to respond in that area."

I'll submit the Doomsday Machine...very crappy programming to not recognize the potential danger of consuming another vehicle without blasting it into rubble first.

While M5, Landru and Rayna were all fun, I have to agree with M'Sharak on this one.

The notion of a starship captain talking a computer to death (or romancing an android) is of course hilarious (Andrea, anyone?), but Kirk and Spock took care of business the old fashioned way, with their hand phasers on Eminiar VII. I just love it. Kirk can't resist blasting the machinery. Never thinks of going to the nearest unguarded substation and just pulling the plug.

Nomad...mostly because it gives Spock two opportunities to be a smartass.

SPOCK: "Your logic was impeccable, Captain...we are in grave danger."

and later...

KIRK: "Didn't think I had it in me, did you, Spock?"
SPOCK: "No sir."
