Ridley Scott is probably one of my favorite directors who has had quite a diverse resume and has been behind the camera for some influential movies (Blade Runner, Alien). He's even making a name for himself producing TV shows (Numbers, The Good Wife). And his brother Tony is also a director (Top Gun, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Man on Fire).

With such an established body of work, you've probably seen many of his movies, so which one of his is your favorite?

I've seen fewer of his movies than I'd have expected. It's definitely between Alien and Blade Runner... I think I'll go Alien.

GI Jane was at least better than GI Joe :(

Liked:

Alien (1979)
Thelma & Louise (1991)
Gladiator (2000)
Matchstick Men (2003)
American Gangster (2007)

Didn't like:
Blade Runner (1982)
Hannibal (2001)

"Alien" and "Thelma & Louise" are the only movies of his I loved and I definitely think "Alien" is by far his best. This poll just makes me realize how overrated he is. "Gladiator" is good and "American Gangster" is okay, but it's not original at all and completely derivative of many better movies like "Heat" and "Scarface". Denzel is fun to watch, but basically just ripping off his own performance from "Training Day".

"Matchstick Men" was cool the first time I saw it, but once you know the twist/con, I don't think it has much re-watch value. "Blade Runner" is one of the most overrated movies of all time. All style, very little substance, and boy am I sick of arguing with its fans. Amazing special effects and production design, weak acting, story, and writing.

Kingdom of Heaven (DC)

After that (in no particular order): Blade Runner, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down.

Top three

Gladiator
Kingdom of Heaven (DC)
Blade Runner

This thread makes me happy, I always thought I was the only one who loves Kingdom of Heaven.

The only ones I've seen....

Alien
Thelma & Louise
1492: Conquest of Paradise
Gladiator
Hannibal
Black Hawk Down
Kingdom of Heaven
Robin Hood

My favorite.... Gladiator.

Ones I liked.... Alien, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Robin Hood

Ones I was indifferent about.... Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven

Ones I hated.... Thelma & Louise

Am I the only one who liked 1492: Conquest of Paradise?

I enjoyed many of Scott's films, but "Blade Runner" is among the top. It shows how our modern commercialism could grow even more crass and gaudy. It's exploration of what it means to be human makes it memorable.

Although Blade Runner is my favourite, I gotta' admit I have a bit of a hard on for Black Rain.

Count me as another Kingdom of Heaven fan, though I also like Alien, Blade Runner, Matchstick Men and Gladiator. I remember liking White Squall, but it's been such a long time since I've seen it that I'm not sure what I'd think now.

This poll made me realize that I haven't actually seen one of his films since Kingdom of Heaven. Weird.

1. ALIEN
2. BLADE RUNNER
(BIG GAP)
3. GLADIATOR

Most of the rest of his films I am indifferent to, or haven't seen.

Absolutely hated HANNIBAL.
