We have our Roger Korby

AmandaSmith

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
And it's Cillian O’Sullivan

Easy to miss, but this was actually already discussed a few days ago in the general discussion thread, starting here.

I don’t think I’ve seen O’Sullivan in anything before, but I’m sure he’ll be fine. I wish they’d cast someone that maybe looks a bit less like another hunk like Ethan Peck, but maybe they did that on purpose. I wonder how much the Korby / Chapel storyline will take us away from the ship. And I’m curious to see if by the end of season three they will already be engaged.

While I Like Chappel and her actress.. if the story requires her to leave, even if its for a season, then so be it.
They could easily take her off the ship and still have her be a part of the show. But Korby is an important part of Chapel's story, so she definitely needs to leave Enterprise for a bit.

Yeah, I think them announcing who would play Korby is a pretty clear sign that he and this storyline will play some significant part in the season, indicating that although Chapel might leave the ship to meet him, we would be along for the ride. I see nothing that would tell me they are writing Jess Bush out of the show. Calling her a “breakout star” of the show probably goes too far, but I certainly feel like Jess Bush’s Chapel is pretty popular with both the viewers and the writers. So I don’t see her exiting the show anytime soon.

If it means the rest of the show I'm fine with that too.

Could someone provide a sentence or two summary on what Korby is about? That article made me lose the will to live. I have only watched TOS once so it's not a strong point for me.

Roger Korby is a scientist specializing in archeological medicine (stealing drugs and technology from dead aliens). In the second season of SNW, Chapel applied to and was accepted into a research fellowship he was heading.
Korby and Chapel will hit it off and get engaged. Korby will go missing on an archeological expedition in about two years.

Chapel joined Starfleet (or, I guess, rejoined) in the hopes that, while traveling around space, she'd find some clue as to what happened to him. In the TOS episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" the Enterprise discovers Korby's expedition on a planet. They eventually learn he discovered an ancient civilization with the technology to build perfect humanoid androids, including downloading the minds and memories of living people into robot duplicates. Korby turns out to be one of those duplicates himself, the original human Korby having died shortly after discovering the android-making machine and barely surviving long enough to copy himself into a robot body.

Thank you!

Adding Korby is not to make Chapel leave the show.

Adding Korby is to further escalate the T'Pring-Spock-Chapel love triangle.

After all that happened, Chapel eloping with another man will create the maximum amount of relationship drama for everyone involved, and Spock in particular.

Having then Korby go missing in season 4 is gonna' make literally EVERYONE miserable.

They gonna' milk ALL the emotions. This is writing 101. Can't really fault them.

So now that we have our Korby, will we also have our Brown? ;)

srsly, TOS established that Christine and Brown were good friends (she often called him "Brownie") so it would make sense, wouldn't it?
