Was the Enterprise mentioned in Discovery after they went 900 years forward

Simple question, its been a while since I watched and I can't remember if they mention the Enterprise at all.

What we haven't had is any indication there is a current Enterprise in the 32nd century. I've speculated there might not be and that Voyager is now Starfleet's flagship. At the very least, Voyager must be one hell of a prestigious posting if the Federation President is personally responsible for selecting its Captain.

I've also leaned towards there's no Enterprise in the 32nd Century. I don't think there's been an Enterprise post-Burn at all. I think the Enterprise symbolizes what Starfleet used to be and is trying to get back to. I think a new Enterprise would symbolize that Starfleet is completely back on its feet. I don't think they'll get there before the end of Discovery.

I completely agree with both of you. I’d be totally fine if, after 900 years, which, granted we don’t get to see, they gave the Enterprise name a rest. And I like the idea of Voyager being the new flagship. After what the crew of Janeway’s Voyager went through to get back to the Alpha Quadrant, it seems an appropriate name for the flagship post-Burn.

I choose to believe that there was an Enterprise pre-Burn, most likely a 'New Constitution' class, which was destroyed along with all the other ships. And that the final season will reveal a new Enterprise with a new design post-Burn.

Here's hoping.

Just don’t rename Discovery the Enterprise in the final episode.

Y'know... a part of me sort of hopes this happens just to see certain portions of fandom's heads explode.. especially if Michael Burnham is still Captain.

I'm pretty sure though that an Enterprise has already been mentioned as existing in this time period.

Bad trekkie. :p

It was mentioned. Saru refers to the Voyager and the Enterprise in "Stormy Weather". He doesn't say which Voyager and Enterprise, but still.

Beat me to it!

I think if there is a new Enterprise in the 32nd-Century, she shouldn't be a continuation of the NCC-1701 legacy. I believe there will always be an Enterprise--either in service, in the works, or even just sitting in a museum--but the NCC-1701 registry probably should have been retired long before the Burn, IMO, maybe before it even reached NCC-1701-Z.

All that being said, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we do see the Enterprise-Z pop up somewhere in the finale...

If Enterprises to Voyagers correlate in terms of numbers of ships replaced, the new Enterprise would be the NCC-1701-O or -P (The Voy-B and Ent-G both enter service at the start of the 25th century, and now there is a Voy-J, eight letters later.)

The only thing is that with only a few notable exceptions, most starships named Enterprise didn't really last all that long. Starfleet went through eight of them in just 150+ years, which probably says more about the number of rough & dangerous missions those ships are sent on more than anything else, IMO. So unless Starfleet starts giving ships named Enterprise more safer uneventful missions or regularly allowing more time (like a decade or two) to pass between iterations, they're going to run out of letters for NCC-1701 well before the Burn. At the point, I think it'd be well past time to just finally retire NCC-1701 and give the next Enterprise a brand-new hull registry and a fresh start.

Honestly, I kind of like the idea that 32nd century Starfleet has realized that 6 digit registries are kind of silly, and have gone back to 4-digit registries to recycle the numbers (i.e. the USS Credence NCC-2604), so if we saw a new Enterprise, I would love for it to have an NCC-1701 registry.

There's nothing wrong with having 6- or even 7-digit hull registries because they're really not supposed to be all that terribly important to audiences, IMO. Had the producers of Star Trek IV a different idea about the second Starship Enterprise, they could have simply given that ship NCC-1701 (no suffix), and that would have been the tradition for subsequent ships with the name. In an early "finished" render of the Enterprise-J (which was later used for the Eaglemoss miniature model), she was seen simply with just NCC-1701 (again, no suffix) on her hull.

It's not about whether it's wrong or not. It's just awkward to have 6 or 7 digit registries for a small amount of ships once most of them got destroyed 100 years before, and definitely unnecessary for any new ships coming off the line. If they are rebuilding Starfleet after a century of zero ship construction, there's no need for a huge registry number. Just start over again.
