Voyager "Death Wish"

Trekboy1993

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
When Riker showed up on Voyager thanks to Q he was still in the TNG style uniform which was phased out in 2369 but somehow he knew of Janeway and Voyager while the year was now 2372 how did he know that

Actually, that year "DEATH WISH" took place, 2372, the TNG uniforms were still being used in Statfleet. Example, during this time, Sisko wore it during his time on Earth in "HOMEFRONT"/"PARADISE LOST". I believe it was also still used by some starship personnel all the way to "RAPTURE", which was when DS9 started using movie uniforms.

It is very possible Riker knew about the disappearance of Voyager and who commanded her.

If I remember correctly, I think Sisko still wore the old TNG style uniform when he went to Earth, didn't he? Generations did mix and match the unis. As you say, Death Wish was in 2372. First Contact was in 2373 so the then-present day Riker could've still conceivably been wearing the TNG uniform.

To some degree, I think it's moot. If he chose to do so, Q could make him appear in a leotard, just for giggles.

(EDIT: Yeah, what Farscape said. That's me... day late and a dollar short again :) )

Yeah, the TNG style uniform would continue to be used until 2374 so that's not scandalous. However, Riker was wearing the TNG style comm badge in Death Wish which was definitely retired before Janeway took command of Voyager, so there's still a legitimate complaint to be made here.

Depending on when Riker was plucked from, and if it was really Riker. If it was, he was taken from the Enterprise D.

By the Time of Death Wish, First Contact had been filmed.

Either way, he was probably taken from the Enterprise D. Having the old combadge isn't an accident when so much meticulous detail is given to costumes. He's standing in a room full of people wearing the new combadge and uniform, including Q and Q.

"In universe," Janeway would likely have been given command of Voyager prior to the last episode of TNG, and Riker gave no indication that he knew the ship went missing.

I'd like to echo the point made earlier about Starfleet gradually transitioning to updated uniforms and perhaps Q preferred the former style and I could even joke, it was due to his Man crush on Picard as his reasons for his preference. He didn't know it yet, that he'd crush on our Captain. Speaking of which, he switched to Voyager ones by Q and the Grey, right?

They're wearing the Voyager uniforms in Death Wish.

There is no VOY uniform, VOY is the only ST show which did not have a new uniform design created for it. Technically speaking it's the DSN uniform that VOY uses.

I'm yanking on my virtual hair. Where's that emoji

"Q and Q showed up on Voyager wearing DSN uniforms"

Clear as mud

No, we saw in Relativity Janeway wasn't assigned command of Voyager until right around Caretaker. Her and the Admiral were already discussing Tuvok's disappearance with Chakotay's ship, in other words, Caretaker's opening scene.

Q was already wearing the DS9/Voyager uniform when he showed up in Death Wish, and had begun wearing it back on DS9 in Q-Less.

I don't see why their is an inconsistency here. It's probably that the Starfleet uniforms weren't updated until a few years later. Or Q just switched the uniforms for his amusement or familiarity.

Voyager was still under construction. For all we know, she could have been assigned a year earlier. In Relativity, she says she's been pouring over the blueprints for months, so at least that long. Caretaker is 3 or 4 months after All Good Things.

Riker, if he's keeping up on the Starfleet Times knew Janeway was the Captain of Voyager before his ship was destroyed.

Amazing, the lengths I end up going(researching Trek trivia) over a combadge. A COMBADGE! If they'd wanted to, they could have given Riker the newer combadge. I mean, they probably had 100's by this point. Heck, why not just put him in the uniform he'd already worn in Generations. They could have fitted him for one like they did for Both Qs. No, they chose to put him in his old, old uniform with old combadge.

Maybe he's nostalgic, and wearing his old gear until the transition deadline. Maybe he doesn't like change. A uniform transition in the today's military can take up to 3 years.

John de Lancie was fitted for one back in Q-Less, so they just used that here. The guy that played Quinn, I'm not sure about.
