Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)_

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

I think they are, but it's a bit early to tell. I'm not familiar with the actual mythology, but it seems that they're going for a more naturalistic take on things in which her roots according to the myth are pretention, perhaps bordering on delusion.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

The sad thing is that Princess Aslaug was a far more important character in Viking history/mythology than Lagertha and a Warrior Woman to boot. They made Lagertha too sympathetic and likable for the transition from her to Aslaug to be acceptable by the viewers.

...Unless they were deliberately trying to make Aslaug unlikable.

Honestly thought she was just bsing about her Father and everything else until the kid was really born with a 'dragon' in his eye.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Katheryn Winnick is so striking and projects such a strong persona, it would be difficult to find an athletically gifted enough, talented enough actress to cast a shadow over her. "Blame" the actress so to speak for Aslaug suffering in comparison. IMO, the writers are trying to make Aslaug unlikable. Her whining about the dirty house, for instance.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

It also doesn't help they portrayed her as this Home-Wrecker who destroyed a happy marriage (and for whatever reason no one blames Ragnar for any of this), it's REALLY hard to portray someone who deliberately seduces the husband of a character the audience has come to really like all for social-climbing purposes as a sympathetic character.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Lagertha blamed Ragnar. That's why she's so compelling to the audience. She's not some wimpy "you stole my man" type. She put the blame where it belonged. She didn't lord her new status over Siggy once Ragnar killed the Earl. She helped the unseen young wife who'd "miraculously" given birth about whom the old man was telling her when Ragnar was off chasing Aslaug's tail. She didn't like women being raped while on campaign.

Lagertha's a strong woman who isn't bitchy to other women simply because she can be. The character's a dream.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

In the story that the show is telling, it seems that Asslog is the complication...Lagertha is "the one". It's possible that they're setting up Asslog for some growth, but they already seem to be going that route with Siggy, who seems to be aspiring to be more like Lagertha.

Alright, now we have a little bit of angst between Ragnar and Bjorn.

So...does Athelstan have a girlfriend? She's still married, isn't she?

Maybe down the line. The king didn't say anything about a divorce, and only the church could annul the marriage, but they might have had more flexibility in such issues at that time than in later history, I'm not sure about that. I guess her husband might be a knight or other important rank for the king, himself, to be judging the issue. Maybe, he'll arrange a divorce to use her as a means to draw Athelstan over to his side if he and the son take notice of the two folks interest in one another?

Wait a minute...I see what they're doing here...Athelstan was crucified last week...now he's got a Mary Magdalene.....

He's the Reverse Jesus!

Season finale - Athelstan walks on water back to Kattegat. Beat that, Norse gods!

(This thread is deader than Earl Haraldson....)

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Maybe when they introduce the Zombie Vikings next season, things will pick up?

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Zombies would be redundant with Floki around.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Floki needs to die, that psychopath.:vulcan::vulcan: The guy gets off on torture. I don't understand the affection for the character.

At least Ragnar seems to give a crap what happened to Athelstan after his little snit fit when he wouldn't go back. Of course, now Athelstan is Ecbert's plaything. The guy is like the prize in hostage musical chairs, Anglo Saxon/viking version.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

I love Floki, he is a weirdo and one of the only charcters with a truly different world-view than one from our cultural background, plus I dig bis look! :D

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Floki's look and mannerisms remind me of an old friend of mine (minus the psychopathic killing thing). He's just plain entertaining to watch...a scene-stealer.

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

The king is an idiot...Ragnar only became enemies with Jarl Borg because the king didn't want to fight with him...now he's all, "Let's team up with Jarl Borg!"

Re: Vikings season 2 episodes discussions (spoilers inside, of course)

Lagertha sticking a knife into Earl Drunk Asshole's eye was the most awesome thing I've seen on TV this year.

Also, I just love King Ecbert. What an awesome character.

Siggy: "Can you keep a secret?"
Floki giggles then gives a 'bitch please' look: "No."
