Reportedly this is not an origin story, but a detective-themed story early in Batman's career. I like the idea of a movie focusing on the detective side of Batman for a change.

^^this

I've not seen a Batman movie in ages, so many recent ones just seemed too... haughty,. for lack of better word. This detective theme slant actually sounds original, even though it was there at the start and not really touched upon since. Now I'm getting hyped with some good vibes.

I'm not going to lie, at first I had the knee-jerk reaction of, "GAH! Sparkly Batman!" and the disappointment of Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm not being cast. But. I also remembered that initially I had the same reaction when Affleck was cast. But Ben Affleck rose to the occasion and beat out Christian Bale as my favorite Batman.

Also, I remembered that Matt Reeves is in charge. The four feature films he's done (Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes) I've really appreciated and enjoyed. So, I'm going to give Reeves and Pattinson the benefit of the doubt. I'll be very curious to see who he casts as Catwoman and the Penguin (or the other four villains from the Rogue's Gallery) if the rumors are true.

Also, I'd very much appreciate if the kept the Affleck-Batman digitized Batman voice over the growl/roar of the Bale Batman :)

At first I was like "The guy from Amazing Spiderman??" and then I was like "who?" and then I was like "oh, the guy from Harry Potter!"

I've been thinking more about this today. I hope they don't waste time casting other parts, because I'm really curious who Reeves is going to cast for what role. Personally, I would absolutely love if he cast Colin Firth as Alfred. If we want to do the Batman Returns connection, how about Christopher Walken as Commissioner Gordon or Don Falcone?

He's been in films other than Twilight, good films that were made better because of his performance.

Cronenberg seems to like him.

I recall the reaction to Ledger being mostly positive, what with him having gotten an Oscar nomination the same year and most fans loving Nolan's BB and its cast.

A few people said he is too just young celeb hunk, most said he can do well especially if Nolan thought he could.

Not at all, until we actually starting seeing pictures and hearing dialogue a ton of people hate the casting. It didn’t help that his Oscar win was for Brokeback Mountain and a lot of comicbook fans are openly homophobic at the time.

Everything that I've seen from Matt Reeves on his vision for this movie leaves me willing to trust in the actors that he casts. I'm not familiar with Pattinson's acting chops first-hand save for Claire Denis' High Life, in which he was very good. Mostly he is only known to me by reputation from his Twilight days, but that was ages ago now and looking at his filmography Pattinson has subsequently sought out a whole range of films that were no doubt more challenging.

What has me a little disappointed are the rumors that the film will be going with Penguin and Catwoman as the villains. It would be nice to see the film dive into portions of Batman's rogues' gallery that doesn't see use as often as these two, especially given how prominent Penguin was on the recently concluded Gotham. Oh well, maybe the next time around if Reeves finds good success with this one.

I’d love to see a decent Mr Freeze, but the only good interpretation was Batman TAS and it doesn’t get copied enough.

On Facebook, SF author and film critic/buff Adam-Troy Castro has been posting about what an impressive actor Pattinson has become and how annoying it is that people with little knowledge of cinema are judging him solely on Twilight. He made the analogy with Marlon Brando, whom some fans today dismiss as a talentless hack because the entirety of their familiarity with him is from Superman: The Movie.

On the contrary, it's the only version that does get copied anymore. Paul Dini invented the whole story of Mr. Freeze as Victor Fries, a scientist searching for a cryogenic cure for his beloved wife Nora, and as far as I know, every subsequent version has used that identity and motivation for the character; they just haven't done it as well.
