USS Claymore launched!

Epic! Simply brilliant. :techman:

I never liked the Nebula-class very much. Too chunky. The Claymore is a much cleaner design imho. It looks faster too!

the front view is kind of awkward, i think, but it does have some other good angles. the whole aft structure behind the saucer looks brilliant.

Very nice work as always, I was always a sucker for the Reliant/Nebula look. My only gripe would be using the small nacelles as torpedo pods, they are clearly warp nacelles and draw the eye immediately. I thought it was battle damage at first when the end caps appeared to be missing.

No stranger looking then the Nebula variant that actually had mini nacelles on top instead of a pod.

It looks great. Only thing I would have changed would be to curve the nacelle pylons inward as they go up and to put the roll bar into the side of the sensor pod. Right now you have this ship with graceful lines that are ruined by these dead flat pylons and a sensor pod that is just scabbed on. You craftsmanship is top notch though.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but there is probably only so much you can do with a physical model. He probably could have done that if she were merely done in Illustrator, but it probably would have been extremely difficult to find the right parts to do it in physical form.

I'm a little disappointed to see that there are no megaphaser cannons, because that is one of the things that I like about the Miranda/Avenger-class, but oh well...

I love how you placed several other phaser arrays, and I'm liking the lines of the added on aft hull.

What is her size? Is he hull more along the lines of the size of a New Orleans or Challenger, or does she use a full-sized Galaxy-type hull?

I'm not with the others of liking her more than the Nebula; I kind of like her just as much.

Even though the Nebula-class was designed in real life to be a sort of descendant of the Miranda class, I think that the Nebula class kind of evolved into a life of her own-she isn't called a Tactical Cruiser for nothing. I see the Nebula class as a bigger version of the Heavy Frigate, with the same modular capabilities, but with provisions to carry more equipment, and of course, more weaponry.

I see the Miranda and her kin as being more for patrol and support.

I'm mad envious of your modelling skills. Nice as she looks, there's a question on my mind: Thinking of the Miranda class, the roll bar molds into the pod on the sides, whereas with your model here, the pod is sort of underslung. I'm curious why you took that design approach rather than letting the bar merge into the sides of the pod (which really lend themselves to it given the <O> shape of it).

Also: boo all you Nebula haters. :P

I like Nebula fine--this just bridges back to Reliant/Miranda more directly. Also a favorite. Might be nice to see this extended saucer be atop an All Good Things dreadnought.

Size - yes, it's a full-sized galaxy class hull.

Bent pylons - too much trouble. Getting the roll bar bent with a hair dryer and clamps was trouble enough!

Megaphasers - the Galaxy class type Xs are probably more powerful than a Miranda's megaphasers already! And I wanted lots of torpedo tubes! :)

Well, I won't deny that it was simply easier to glue it to the bottom of the roll bar, but I did look at both options. I think this is the more unexpected, less "conventional" way to go. I wonder if I'd gone the other way if someone wouldn't have said "What, you couldn't come up with something different than the Reliant?!"

It certainly is - mind you, it's not a bad decision, just not one that was obvious to me right away. And I did not mean to come off as rude by asking if it was just the easier way - not after seeing all that hard work going into it. You've done an amazing job no matter my personal preferences and I commend you for it, good sir. :)

so whats that hatch in the front and bottom of the saucer?

and when will see this in action if ya catch my drift ;)

That's a deflector dish behind a "radome." If she's fitted with a roll bar that doesn't have a deflctor pod, that deflector will be the primary.

In-action shots are in-progress! I keep finding myself doing the same damn pictures - coming at the camera shooting, zipping away at warp. Gotta think harder.

The first couple of action shots are featured in the kitbash calendar :).

In Action!

Took my time and tried to do some nice ones this time:

You make the best starship kitbashes, better than many of the canon ships. Fantastic job on the Claymore! :)
