Unique photos taken of the TOS cast for Movieland Wax Museum

First, for those unfamiliar with the wax museum, here is a link:

(Kickstarter Link Removed)

It's really great that the figures were all rescued and kept together and will be on display again.

The photos....

As mentioned in the article, the cast members were photographed in the early 70s. The photo shoots were done in their own homes. With the exception of Nichelle Nichols, who declined to participate. Existing photos of her were used for the project and you will see those here as well.

Circa 2003, I had the opportunity to purchase a group of the original photos. Shortly thereafter, I was in contact with Audrey K Anderson, who was the head of Leonard Nimoy's fan club, and she mentioned that she had some of the original photos as well. It turned out that we each had half of the original photo collection. We both loaned our photos to Curt McAloney, who operates startrekhistory.com and he did high-quality scans of all of the photos. Until now, the three of us have likely been the only ones to have seen all of the photos together in a long time. I felt that it was time to share the photos here, so that they will have wide appreciation.

I will begin with the photos of Leonard Nimoy. Yes, the effects of his struggles with alcoholism and smoking are quite evident in the photos. The three of us commented on that in our discussions with each other. Leonard was in his early 40s in these photos, but appears older and unhealthy. May he have the peace now that he did not have then.

I removed the Kickstarter link.

Okay, yeah, they seek donations. Sorry that I didn't pay enough attention to that aspect of the site.

If there is a better site for the background story about the museum, anyone can feel free to add it.

And, for the record, I no longer have the original photos, only the electronically saved copies, so no attempt at solicitation on my part here. :)

All right, who was it who popped Leonard in the eye/DeForest on the lip before these photos were taken?

Guess the TMP makeup people didn't really have to do much to turn back the clock after all; only five years after the show ended, and they already look like they did in the movie (if not even rougher). Even Takei and Koenig are sporting grey hairs... I kinda wish Koenig had brought back the beard for TWOK on, though.

Any idea why Nichelle opted out?

Wow, really amazing... and sobering, especially with Nimoy. Yikes, I hadn't read up much on his personal life. Didn't realize he had such deep personal struggles with alcoholism and smoking. Very sad... but thankfully he rose above it to live a pretty reasonably long life.

Wow, the wax museum people must've really hated Walter Koenig for growing a full beard. That had to be a nightmare for them to work from. Doohan's mustache must've been tough enough.

It's also interesting to see them obviously miming their various stations on the bridge: Nimoy looking into Spock's hooded viewer at the science station, Shatner at the Captain's chair, Takei and Koenig at the helm/navigation console (Although Koenig seems to think it was lower than Takei does), Kelley and Doohan standing by. I wonder how much they had to adjust the postures on the final figures?
