UEFA Euro 2016 + Qualifiers

England 2 - 0 Estonia

Nine games and nine wins. Dead rubber but an impressive campaign. Bring on the play-offs. They should be worth a watch.
 
How many great chances at scoring will Germany miss in the second half? It's really driving me nuts.
 
Well done N. Ireland (won the group and their first major tournament since 86). Well done Wales (first major tournament since 58 :eek:). Well done Albania (first ever tournament).

Still think 24 teams is way too many though.

I find it hard to care about national team football even without the EURO being swarmed by even more mediocre teams.
What I used to like about EUROs in the past was that the average quality of games was often better than that of World Cups. With 24 participants it's going to be ugly.
 
Yup, 24 is too much. I mean, making it 16 (England 1996) was pushing it already. With 24, it feels like an extended qualifier.
 
It's given a lot of countries an opportunity to play in a tournament for the first time (which is good) but it will weaken the tournament (as well as the qualifiers) in the long run.

There are already Welsh people complaining that their achievement is being slightly under valued because the qualifiers are viewed as too easy. This Wales teams is actually looking very good to be fair. They very probably would've qualified for a 16 team tourney (and it being much easier to qualify didn't seem to help the Dutch :wtf:).

The tournament's best third place group positions will be fun to watch at least. Get your calculators out. :)

I'm off down the bookies to put a tenner on Belgium.

Coming up to half time. Barkley and Kane scoring (or was it an own goal?) and it looks like it's gonna be ten wins from ten games.
 
It's not looking good for the Netherlands. :( They're down 0-1 against the Czech Republic (which is already qualified) in a game they'd need to win to have a chance at the play-offs (Turkey would also need to lose their game against Iceland).

yay, Wales/Eng/NI! too bad Scotland aren't joining us..... England won't win it though...we have no world class players.

I'm Dutch, and I really can't say I'm sorry they didn't qualify.

Normally, I would be rooting for my national team, and I would still be rooting for them, if I had had the feeling that they had done everything they could, but just weren't good enough to qualify. However, this particular edition of Oranje showed such a complete lack of fighting spirit and lack of commitment to other members of the team and the team's cause I really am not sorry they failed- they just got what they deserved. I sincerely hope they will get their businesses in order from now on.

I'm not sure though what side I will now pick for the EC 2016, perhaps Belgium.

Draw for the tournament groups in December. I'm betting on Republic and Northern Ireland being in the same group and probably Russia and Ukraine too.
 
What a shame Scotland let the side down...

I'm not sure how the seeding works but I'm betting on England getting Wales in their group.

But how does the new format work? Well, if you've mastered the art of kicking a ball with your foot in roughly the correct direction, you'll probably qualify for the knock-out stage.
