I really enjoyed Taking Wing but was disappointed by this novel. Much of my confusion about the Neyel was later explained when I read The Sundered (instead of reading that first...), but I remember being quite bored by the plot and also the characterization.

And for the record, I like Keru. *g* But I also think that he remained very static in the books that I read of the Titan-series (which was up to Over a Torrent Sea).

I read Taking Wing when it first came out and liked it all right, but for some reason didn't read The Red King, or the next Titan novels then (did get half way through Synthesis). But in the last couple weeks felt compelled to read TOS Ex Machina, and then TLE The Sundered (this is after not reading much of any TOS era fiction for some years). Was kind of fascinated by the Neyel story (mostly, lol), so now am taking on Red King. So far interesting enough, will try to finish it soon. (Altho feel like maybe I should now re-read Taking Wing.)

A step down from "Taking Wing" imho.
Too much characters, a boring plot and a middle part that drag a lot. Now the true mission of Titan can begin, and I hope it will be more interesting than the first two-part story.

Oh, Orion's Hounds is much, much better than the first two, and I say that as someone who really enjoyed Taking Wing. I was honestly kind of meh on Red King though.

Just posted my review. I rather enjoyed this story, it was interesting to revisit the Neyel. I can understand frustration though if someone hasn't read The Sundered or hadn't read it recently.
