Trials and Tribble-ations 20th Anniversary

The episode that makes me hate the funness of the ending of Trouble with Tribbles. Poor Tribbles being all killed off. :(

Great episode, and not the least be ironic that the least "Star Trek" or least Roddenberry-esque series is the one that got the Valentine to fans right.

I think that comes down to who wrote it. Moore and Echevarria are really creative guys, and were responsible for some of the best Trek episodes of all time. It's hard to compete with that level of talent.

Extremely entertaining DS9 episode. I loved Sisko encountering Kirk. TOS production designs including uniforms still looked good on the DS9 crew.:)

They did a lot right back in the 60s, but were hampered by technology and budget. Those old uniforms designs really did look great in DS9 (and also in the recent NuTrek films) with more modern lighting, better filming tools, and modern cinematography. The ship also looks great with a little a few modern filming tweaks -- and not just Greg Jein's Trials model, but even if you look at some of the work in the Fan Art forum (especially from Vektor and Dennis), the Connie can look every bit as stellar as any contemporary design. It's really amazing, when you think about it, how well those guys did.

I love the idea of Klingons trying to exterminate them -- and especially Odo's comment: "This?! 'Mortal enemy of the empire'?? Tell me: do they still sing songs about The Great Tribble Hunt?" I laugh out loud at that every time, and consider it part of the fun of Trials that matches its original series counterpart.

Another glorious chapter in the Klingon Empire. But getting back on topic "Trials..." was an exmaple of how to do a valentine to the fans TATV was an example of how not to do it.

A lot of my DS9 rewatching feels like it has to be sequential, or that I have to be in the right mood for some of it (because let's face it, ITPM is a downer every time). This one though...this one I can watch pretty much any time and it is always entertaining. Plus it's like watching DS9 and TOS at the same time...two great tastes that taste great together!

I find myself thinking to some degree that if they only had one episode to remaster in HD, it should be this one...but then I think "no DS9, no amazing battles, TOS has already been remastered..." and I think there's probably better options.

I tend to agree with your second self... if CBS were to remaster one episode as an example, it should be one where there's an epic space battle or some other heavy use of special effects where you really see the difference.

I remember being super-pumped up about this episode when I heard it was happening. When I watched it I was amazed by the new shots of the Enterprise and a friend of mine said he didn't see the difference between the model work in this episode and the shots from TOS. I couldn't believe it.

I was going to say "have we all seen the clever YouTube video that fixes the end credits?", but just noticed it doesn't even have 1,500 views!

It's amazing how well "Trials And Tribble-ations" holds up. It's a minor detail, but I also love how casually it hand waves the time travel mechanics -- "while we were doing all that, Kira figured out how to use the Orb Of Time to get us back to the present." The end, no follow-up questions! They knew to use their screentime on more interesting things.

This episode is also IMO a shining example of how the novelizations of the era really filled in some of the blanks. At the end when Sisko simply said he HAD to meet Kirk and snuck back onto the Enterprise with that express purpose, was made SO much more clear to me in the novelization, when it was revealed that he deliberately got Kirk to sign that duty roster... So that he could get his autograph.

That made it a true fanboy moment. And in my headcanon, in Sisko's DS9 office off to the side, next to his model of the Saratoga sits that 2260s-era tablet with Captain Kirk's signature on it. :)

Just saw this tonight on H & I... STILL perhaps the funnest episodes of Trek ever. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

I still have some of the free tribbles they gave away to promote the episode.

This was a really good episode. Enjoyed the way they used TOS characters. The scene when Worf sees the original Klingons was brilliant.

Great episode!

Fun Fact: The uniforms created for this episode were reused for the episode "In a mirror darkly." They just removed the Enterprise "arrowhead" insignia and replaced it with the Defiant's symbol.

Writer Mike Sussman made a special cameo appearing as "Dead guy on floor" and he wore Sisko's tos uniform for the shot.

Seriously??? WOw -- that makes me love the episode more...not only does it connect with TOS (2 series previous), but it has a direct effect on a show two series later!!!!

There's gotta be some special honorific we can come up with for this episode
