Time Travel and the Ascended Ancients

Throughout Stargate we've had time travel, SG-1 have done it, Baal has done it and corporeal Ancients have done it but it got me thinking... does time travel effect the ascended ancients? can the ascended ancients travel through time themselves? when Baal altered Earth history were the ascended ancients aware of this or were they unaware of the altered timeline because the changes effected them aswell?

If someone went back in time by 10,000 years and somehow helped the wraith defeat the ancients before they ascended would the ascended ancients cease to exist? would the ascended ancients act to stop the time travel or would they stick to their policy of none intervention? when baal went back in time and altered Earth history surely this meant the Ori once again existed and yet the ancients did nothing to stop this.

I think these are interesting questions that could be focused on. What are your thoughts?

Actually, since there was no Stargate program, Daniel Jackson was a washout hiding out in Egypt and Vala was still Qetesh. As a result, they wouldn't have been transported to the Ori Galaxy therefore the Ori would not have come. Besides, Ba'al may have been able to construct the weapon and found a way to send it to the Ori Galaxy to play it safe.

Also, I'd imagine the Ancients would have still worked on ascension even without the Wraith threat. Their ego was too big not to attempt it.

It is a good question, not really onscreen evidence to point either way with the ascended beings (remember, not all ascended beings are Ancients, there are other aliens ascended as well.)

I would like to believe that they are not affected by changes in the timeline and are able to see other timelines and universes.

We just really don't know enough about them so all we can do is guess at this point.

I think that the question being asked is whether or not ascended beings are linear. Do they experience time or are they like the Prophets from DS9?

I think that its fairly obvious that the Ancients are bound by linear time. They are not all seeing and knowing. The Ori were not even aware of the Milkyway humans/ancients until Daniel and Vala showed up. That indicates that not only are they limited temporally, but spacially as well.

Further more, neither Daniel nor any of the other ascended beings stated that they knew the future. Ascended beings are simply highly evolved life forms.

The Ancients were shielding the Milky Way from the Ori, this was stated in the show.

They fact that they haven't stated they know the future doesn't mean they don't. They probably aren't going to tell us corporeal beings everything they are capable of.

Aaargh....

All this back and forth in the show(s) (and on forums) about ascension, what ascending beings cannot to and can do, makes me wish that the concept was never introduced into the show(s) to begin with... What was once a relatively novel concept (for a TV SF show) has been turned into something tedious and ordinary. And annoying.

The same goes for anything involving the Ancients. I'm *really* looking forward to Universe, which more pining/groveling about Ancients - who really turn out to be boring, schmucks, or most likely both. As if we didn't see the same thing on SG1 or Atlantis. Lots of times.

Now add time travel to the mix... excuse me [grabs a bucket to barf in] :cardie:

The Stargate universe is in SUCH a need of a reboot.

Sorry for the rant. ;)
