Thrift shop bargains

And that's just what I've managed to spot with some concentrated digging in three days.

You have a good shop near you. It's much rarer to find those sorts of items near me.

There were loads of fantastic deals all over the place - clothes by Ralph Lauren, D&G, Max Mara, a pair of brand new Miu Miu shoes.... none of which were my size, unfortunately.

Study eBay for resale values and then buy and flog them and get something for yourself with the profits. I've restricted most of my own clothes purchases to the money I make from reselling items I find at a good price or clearing out existing items I own.

When I was in high school I found a Liz Claiborne wool pleated black skirt at a local thrift store. It was tagged as $2.54, but thanks to a deal that day, I paid 54 cents!

And this past summer when I was still very heavy (I've lost nearly 30 pounds), I found an Ann Taylor t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts all for about 10 bucks.

Best deal: Last month, local Catholic Charity, a construction company donated damn near a whole kitchen of custom cabinets and new, still in the box, gas and electric appliances. The, so the story went, home owner had defaulted and left the contractor-- who was doing a kitchen remodel-- with all this special order and cut stuff that he couldn't return and couldn't store till he needed, if he needed, so he just decided to eat the lose and donate it to the Catholic Charity. Around $100 average for the cabinets, a new Kenmore stove for $200, same for the fridge, whole shebang to get it out of the back room $700 dollars. It was gone by the end of the day.

our goodwill's every first saturday are half price.
went yesterday and found a look like new winter parka for a friend.
and a pair of pants ( would have been about 25 at target , got them for 2.50) plus three tops for myself.

i also go to a lot of yard and estate sales too.

though most of my books come from mckays; which is where i trade in the books read but that i dont want to keep.
nice to take in a small stack of books and come home with a dvd, vhs tape and three pb sf books and only pay four bucks.

Back a few years ago, one could find a decent computer in the thrift shops in Sacramento. I bought each son a computer from there, I'd go through and upgrade each (with parts from other computers bought for parts from garage sales) load up some simple text editing programs, some game demos from disks I'd get from magazines, 1 special game for each..get a cheap printer and let em enjoy the world of computing without risking the desktop that I used for work...later I'd network em together so they could play games together..and when they were old enough set them up on the internet using my PC as a network server...

I usually got each computer (mostly old Macs) for about $10.00...

Good fun..

I should have my girlfriend come on here and give a lecture on the subject. She could be an F'ing guru when it comes to thrift shop shopping. I think she has scoured every thrift store in South LA County.

No kidding though it has really come in handy. Her aunt hasn't been able to go to work for a long so she got her started on selling designer jeans on ebay. She gets them for like 5 bucks at the thrift store and her aunt makes hundreds of dollars a month. Her and I just started selling ugly Christmas sweaters. A $20 investment netted us $150.

If you know what to look for you can really get some incredible bargains.
